Shanghai University retired teacher and human rights activist Gu Guoping recently went to Beijing to petition for the umpteenth time. On the morning of November 20th, Gu Guoping was sent back to Shanghai by the Beijing liaison office because he suddenly felt unwell at 500 Fuchun Road (Shanghai Petitioners Distribution Center) and his blood pressure measured as high as 215/121mmHg. He was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment.
Gu Guoping arrived in Beijing on November 18th and around 4 am went to queue at the National Bureau of Letters and Calls. However, the line stretched for hundreds of meters and even by noon, he was unable to register due to his health condition and the long waiting time every day. With no other choice, he decided to once again go to the Central Office in Zhongnanhai to file a complaint to the Chinese Communist Party.
In the past two years, Gu Guoping has visited Zhongnanhai nine times, and each time, he was taken to the police station after being stopped far from the west gate of Zhongnanhai on Fuyou Street, and then escorted to the Jiujingzhuang Petitioners Distribution Center, sent back to Shanghai by the Shanghai government’s liaison office in Beijing, and criminally detained by the Zhoujiaqiao Police Station of the Changning Sub-Bureau of the Shanghai Public Security Bureau.
On November 18th, the deputy director of the Zhoujiaqiao Police Station called Gu Guoping and warned him that if he goes to Zhongnanhai again, he will be criminally detained upon his return.
Around 9 am on November 19th, Gu Guoping arrived at the reception window of the Ministry of Public Security for petitioners. He sent a video to a reporter from The Epoch Times saying, “I have been coming here for over twenty years and the problems are still unresolved. What’s terrifying is that there are so many people waiting in line outside the gate, which means that when you come here, they do not solve the problems but the people raising the issues. This place can be said to be a human rights trap set up for Chinese victims! The extremely evil petition system under the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party doesn’t solve problems but ensnares people!”
Gu Guoping, a victim of illegal demolition, whose parents’ house was demolished without being resettled, eventually died in a nursing home. Being 69 years old, Gu Guoping has been oppressed due to his long history of petitioning and was sentenced to one year and six months in prison. He had four ribs broken in the black prison and currently suffers from prostate cancer, severe hypertension (level 3 extreme high risk), heart disease, diabetes, and other illnesses.
Shanghai human rights activist Yu Zhonghuan told a reporter from The Epoch Times, “Despite knowing his condition, the authorities still repeatedly criminally detain him, and every time there is a major sensitive period like a central conference, he is sent to the black prison in Beijing, where medical treatment and medication are cut off, leading to a worsening of his condition.”
Song Jiahong, the person who released the Shanghai black prison list, said that Gu Guoping went to Beijing for petitioning as usual. Due to being demolished without being resettled, he naturally will not stop petitioning. However, in Beijing, he was intercepted, sent back to Shanghai by the liaison office, and when he arrived at 500 Fuchun Road in the morning, his blood pressure surged, causing his sudden discomfort, and he had to lie down. He has been taken to the hospital for treatment. If petitioning requires someone to sacrifice their life, then petitioning is murder! Let’s all pay attention!
