Recently, a female professor at Wuhan University was reported to have interfered in others’ families and was suspected of academic misconduct, sparking attention. The male party involved in this event, Mr. Fu, previously served as a professor and doctoral supervisor at Wuhan University, and is now employed at Anhui University. Anhui University has responded by stating that they are currently investigating the matter.
On August 19, two daughters of Professor Fu from Wuhan University submitted a written report to the university’s disciplinary committee, accusing a female associate professor named Zeng from the School of Chemistry and Molecular Sciences at Wuhan University of using “power-color transactions” to advance her career, seducing her mentor – who is also their father – and disrupting their family, as well as engaging in academic fraud and improper use of research funds.
On September 3, this 86-page long document was exposed on social media, stirring public opinion and trending online.
The report revealed that both of their parents are professors at Wuhan University. Associate Professor Zeng, originally a doctoral student of their father, developed a close relationship with him and later stayed on to teach at the university. Their father subsequently abandoned their mother to be with Associate Professor Zeng. The female associate professor is also implicated in academic misconduct and has appealed to the university to investigate.
According to the “China News Weekly”, when they contacted the School of Chemistry and Molecular Sciences at Wuhan University on September 3, the staff stated that, “After further understanding, official announcements will be made through the college or university channels,” with specific official notifications subject to feedback from the university’s Party Committee Propaganda Department.
That evening, Wuhan University issued a notice stating that the whistleblower had submitted materials to the university’s disciplinary committee on August 19, and the committee had initiated an investigation.
This explanation immediately prompted questions from the public: “If the report was received half a month ago, Wuhan University could have notified the public sooner rather than waiting for the report to go viral on the internet before issuing a notice.”
Internet users discovered that the male party involved, Mr. Fu, previously served as a professor and doctoral supervisor at Wuhan University, and is now employed at Anhui University.
In response to this, on September 4, a staff member from the Discipline Inspection Committee of Anhui University stated that they were unable to provide a response to this matter and directed specific inquiries to the university’s Party Committee Propaganda Department.
Subsequently, a staff member from the Party Committee Propaganda Department of Anhui University responded to the “China News Weekly” that Mr. Fu is currently a member of the university’s Party Committee and Vice President, and the university had taken notice of the situation on the evening of the 3rd of September and is conducting an investigation. Specific details of the investigation will be subject to official notifications from the university.
