During the traditional Chinese New Year in Anhui, a blogger prepared to slaughter a large goose, and a video of the goose shedding tears has gained attention. Many netizens believe that the goose was crying out of fear of being slaughtered. The blogger stated that the goose has been given away and that they will never eat goose again.
In the video, a large goose is seen hanging its head, with its beak touching the ground and tears streaming down its eyes. There are tear stains visible on the ground, and a child’s voice can be heard in the video asking, “Why is it not moving at all?”
The video is accompanied by a line of text that reads: “As soon as I started heating the water, it started shedding tears. Should I kill it or not, eat it or not?”
Many netizens expressed empathy, saying, “The goose shows its humanity, crying out of fear of being slaughtered,” “Don’t kill it,” “Such an understanding goose must be kept,” “I can take care of it until it’s old,” “Don’t kill it, this goose is spiritual, I’ll buy it…”
Many netizens also shared their experiences of raising pet geese in the comment section.
On the afternoon of February 13, the blogger told mainland media “Morning Video” that the goose was recently purchased and was supposed to be slaughtered on February 12 in their hometown in Anhui. Unexpectedly, the goose shed tears. Due to the collective appeal of netizens, the blogger said, “I dared not eat it,” so the goose has already been given away, with the statement that they will “never eat goose again.”
The blogger also mentioned that it could be possible that a child playing with a broom accidentally touched the goose’s eyes, leading to its tears.
Many netizens have expressed that all things in the world have spirituality, and the goose shed tears knowing it was going to be killed.
Similar incidents have occurred before, such as in February 2022 in Chongqing, when a young man sharpened his knife to slaughter the goose he had raised but hesitated upon seeing the goose crying, eventually deciding not to go through with it.
Recently, in Guizhou, during the slaughter of a New Year pig in a villager’s home, with firewood and hot water ready, right before they were about to start, the large fat pig suddenly knelt on both knees, seemingly begging for mercy from the owner. Seeing this, the owner couldn’t bear to kill the pig and led it back to the pigpen.
