【Epoch Times, May 13th, 2026】On May 6th, a murder case occurred at a hotpot restaurant in Wuji County, Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province, where the perpetrator allegedly sold human flesh to customers, leading to many people needing to go to the hospital for stomach pumping. The nature of this case is extremely heinous, with local residents expressing disgust at the horrific incident.
On May 14th, the Wuji County Public Security Bureau finally issued a brief official report confirming a criminal case within the county. The report stated, “A certain Luo (male, 36 years old) had a dispute with Yang (female, 46 years old) over trivial matters and subsequently killed Yang with a knife.” The police stated that Luo has been criminally detained, and the case is currently under further investigation.
The Guizhou street food stall-style hotpot restaurant, located near Wuji County, gained popularity recently on platforms like Douyin (Chinese TikTok), with many netizens inquiring about the murder and dismemberment incident that took place at the restaurant. Several local residents shared detailed accounts of the case with an Epoch Times reporter.
According to the information obtained, the hotpot restaurant was situated at the intersection of Zhongchang West Road and Maoyi South Street, 100 meters north of Kemei Hotel. The restaurant had only opened a month ago, and its signboard has already been removed.
Liu Jie (pseudonym), who lives opposite the hotpot restaurant, indicated to an Epoch Times reporter that his information source should be the most reliable as his mother’s colleague’s family member works at the local police station. He mentioned that the dissemination of this event was due to the police investigating the case in recent days. Although the police did not disclose the number of customers who ingested human flesh and went to the hospital for stomach pumping, the information eventually leaked out, spreading among the locals.
Liu Jie shared that the business of the hotpot restaurant was thriving before the incident, and the restaurant owner (also the perpetrator) appeared amiable and hospitable towards customers. Both the male owner, hailing from Sichuan, and the female waitress from Guizhou were in a romantic relationship. Although the male owner was already married, the female was divorced and relocated to Wuji with her son from Xinle.
“The woman was previously married to a violent husband from Xinle who abused her daily, leading to their divorce. She moved to Wuji with her son. Then this ex-husband from Xinle somehow found out and came to harass her in Wuji,” Liu Jie said, describing the woman as appearing worn out, almost like a beggar.
Liu Jie recounted, “On the 6th night, the woman got drunk, and a conflict ensued. The man killed her, threw her head into a village to the south, placed her limbs in the refrigerator, and served her meat to customers on the 7th and 8th when the shop opened. When the son returned and couldn’t find his mother for two days, he inquired about her whereabouts, and the man evaded the question. As a result, after the son couldn’t contact her, he discovered something was off when he opened the fridge and found the limbs, prompting him to report to the police.”
Expressing dissatisfaction with the local police, Liu Jie referenced an instance where his classmate’s mother experienced domestic violence, reported it four times, yet the police failed to address the issue. He stated, “I don’t have much hope in our local police station anyway.”
Zhiqiang (pseudonym), residing near the restaurant, confirmed the murder and dismemberment incident that occurred on May 6th. He shared, “Many people ate the meat; the culprit dismembered the victim and offered a complimentary dish of that person’s meat to customers dining at their restaurant. The incident was promptly contained and hushed up.”
Another local, Mr. Li, disclosed that the incident was real, happening on the 6th and only recently spreading. He commented on the disturbing nature of the event involving cannibalism and dismemberment being reported, leading to varied interpretations within the community.
“There were individuals who underwent stomach pumping. The small county is now renowned, gaining nationwide attention,” Mr. Li remarked.
Tianhao (pseudonym) returned home on May 11th, encountering the unsettling news. “The owner is from Sichuan, the lady owner from Guizhou, and their relationship is not quite normal, rumored to be romantic. The lady owner’s son tried calling her but couldn’t reach her, leading to him alerting the police. The dismemberment occurred on the 6th, meat sales commenced on the 7th and 8th, and the perpetrator was apprehended on the 9th.”
“I only know that many people dined those days, consuming multiple bags of human meat. Two bags were sold on the 7th and 8th, with the head buried in Shijiazhuang and the arms in Lv Village. The incident was massive.”
Another local resident shared with the reporter, “The boss is from Yunnan-Guizhou-Sichuan region, rumored to have killed his mistress, leading to dismemberment. The dismemberment occurred on the 6th, business ran as normal on the 7th and 8th, with some saying the meat was sliced while others mentioned skewers, eventually being eaten by customers. There are numerous stories floating around, such as the head tossed in one village, arms in another, and limbs discovered in the refrigerator. The signboard has been removed.”
Regarding the online circulation of sinister narratives such as “dismemberment soup” and “body parts packaged for freezing,” the police emphasized the importance of not believing or spreading rumors. Nevertheless, the intricate details of the case have been fervently discussed among the public in recent days.
Epoch Times reporters attempted to contact the Wuji County Public Security Bureau multiple times but were unable to connect.
Currently, sporadic information about the incident can be found only in the comments section of Douyin, with a netizen claiming to have consumed human flesh. Many netizens expressed disgust, saying, “It’s nauseating; just hearing about this makes me lose my appetite for meat.”
Doubts linger among netizens regarding the police report. Some pointed out peculiar aspects of the case, questioning the sudden removal of the hotpot restaurant’s signboard and the association between a typical criminal case and a dining establishment. Comments included, “This case is utterly bizarre; people say it became human flesh hotpot soup sold. That’s why the report is ambiguous,” and, “Those who dined there will have to bear a lifetime of trauma.”
“It’s the old tradition, don’t believe rumors but in reality, it’s about cooking hotpot so they dare not speak about it. Therefore, is there really human flesh hotpot?” Some demanded a clearer explanation of the cause and effect to quell the rumors.
China frequently experiences extreme incidents of murder, assault, and societal retaliation. During the May Day holiday, several violent incidents occurred, resulting in over 30 casualties. A sedan in Wenzhou, Zhejiang, deliberately rammed pedestrians, leading to a gruesome scene. A stabbing incident unfolded in Liuzhou, Guangxi, and a car indiscriminately rammed into pedestrians in Chengdu, Sichuan, causing multiple casualties. Netizens lamented, “As the economy declines, interclass harm is occurring more frequently. The society is becoming increasingly malevolent.”
Commentators noted that the most noticeable change in Chinese society is the escalating aggression, attributing it to the oppressive living conditions, collapsing sense of dignity, and social isolation – all consequences of the tyrannical rule of the Chinese Communist Party.
