On December 26, the ex-husband of mainland Chinese actress Wang Likun, Jian Haoli, was sentenced to life imprisonment for defrauding 1.39 billion yuan.
According to reports from Red Star News, on that day, the Second Intermediate People’s Court of Beijing held a second trial for Jian Haoli due to the particularly huge amount involved in the case and his repeat offenses within 5 years. He was convicted of contract fraud and sentenced to life imprisonment without parole for the fraud charge, as well as sentenced to 12 years in prison for bribery. Three other defendants in the case were sentenced to varying prison terms of 12 to 14 years.
As reported by Sina, Jian Haoli, also known by his real name Jian Haoli, married actress Wang Likun in 2019. Shortly after their marriage, Jian Haoli was accused of fraud. Last year, there were reports indicating that Wang Likun was in the process of divorcing Jian Haoli, although her studio released a statement denying her involvement in the case.
Previous reports stated that Jian Haoli was charged with fraud and bribery, with the total amount involved in the fraud case reaching 1.39 billion yuan. Of particular interest was his alleged fabrication of a project called “Shuangquan Jiayuan Return Housing,” through which he defrauded nearly 200 homebuyers of around 860 million yuan.
Victims have claimed that Jian Haoli’s remaining assets are only a little over 100 million yuan, with the majority of his wealth being squandered and transferred.
Currently, some of Jian Haoli’s assets have been auctioned off, including a globally limited edition “Millennium Cigar Cabinet” signed by Castro, a suspected Hermès crocodile skin platinum bag, a Rolls-Royce, a red Ferrari, 151 suspected gold bars, and 135 boxes of Guizhou Maotai liquor boxes with Maotai logo.
As of the deadline for this article, it is still unclear whether Jian Haoli will appeal the verdict, and the restitution process must wait for the judgment to become final before commencing.
