Recent scandal involving sexual misconduct has emerged at the “Jingming Daoist Temple” in Nanchang, Jiangxi. An 80-year-old “Daoist master” at the temple allegedly sexually harassed female students twice under the guise of transmitting energy, and even charged the students nearly 1800 yuan (RMB) for his services.
According to a netizen in Nanchang, an 80-year-old “Daoist master” at a local temple sexually harassed a female student under the pretense of transmitting energy. The woman reportedly paid the master nearly 1800 yuan for treatments.
The female student from Jiangxi recently posted online, accusing a certain Xie of the Jingming Daoist Temple in Nanchang of sexually harassing her on two occasions. She claimed that during the first encounter, feeling unwell, she sought help from an individual named Xie at the temple who claimed to be a Daoist master capable of healing her ailments through energy transmission. The “master” proceeded to kiss and touch her private parts for about 40 minutes, and the woman, believing it to be part of the treatment, cooperated. She then transferred 888 yuan to him as a payment for the treatment.
As per their agreement, the student visited the temple again the next day for a second session, where she underwent a similar treatment by the “master” lasting around half an hour. After the session, she once again paid 888 yuan for the treatment.
Subsequently, Xie approached the student to apologize. The student publicly shared a video of a man apologizing to her via video call, identifying himself as “grandpa” and expressing remorse for his actions.
The apology from the “Daoist master” raised suspicions in the student, prompting her to seek advice from friends regarding whether it was customary for Daoist practitioners to kiss and touch their private parts during treatments. Upon receiving a negative response, she realized she had been deceived and decided to report the incident to the authorities.
In response to the incident, staff at the Jingming Daoist Temple in Nanchang stated on December 22 that the individual involved in the alleged misconduct, Xie Chungen, is not a temple staff member but a volunteer, and that the matter has been referred to the authorities for handling.
According to police officers from the Futapai Police Station, the victim’s report has been filed and the facts are currently under investigation.
However, this attempt to shift blame has left netizens dissatisfied, with some questioning the internal management of the temple and raising concerns that deeper issues may have yet to be revealed. Netizens have also criticized the “Daoist master” for his lack of shame.
