Seven new 3-year-old preschool classes opened in autumn, with four located in the Queen’s area.

New York Mayor Mamdani announced on April 16 that seven new early education centers will be opened this fall, adding approximately 240 spots for three-year-old education (3-K). These previously vacant spaces are the first phase of the 2026-2027 school year 3-K expansion plan announced last month. The new centers are located in four in Queens, two in Brooklyn, and one in the Bronx.

“Today, we are opening the doors for our families that should never have been closed – safe, nurturing spaces for children to learn and grow in their own communities,” Mayor Mamdani said in a statement. “By activating these service points, we are clearly stating that no bureaucratic red tape can hinder New Yorkers from accessing the free universal childcare services they deserve.”

The three-year-old education (3-K) centers opening in the 2026-2027 school year are: District 11 – 1107 East Gun Hill Road; District 15 – 274 Atlantic Ave; District 22 – 1326 East 57th St; District 24 – 63-57 Fresh Pond Road; District 24 – 104-72 Roosevelt Ave; District 24 – 47-00 76th St; District 25 – 18-31 131st St.

The city government also announced an expansion of the service capacity of existing contracted institutions, increasing spots in the current program. Following the completion of the Request for Information (RFI) evaluation, the city will announce more center-based childcare spots, as well as plans to increase the capacity of the family childcare network.

The new programs will be announced on the MySchools website. Families who have submitted applications will receive an email with instructions on how to update their applications. Families who missed the deadline can still join the waitlist.
