“Hubei Elderly Woman Discovers Hammer Used for 20 Years is Actually a Hand Grenade, Could Explode at Any Time”

In recent days, it was discovered in Baokang County, Hubei Province that a ninety-year-old lady had been using a hand grenade as a “hammer” for over twenty years. The hand grenade still had its fuse intact, posing a potential explosion threat at any moment.

On June 24th, the Baokang County police stated that in the home of Qin, a nonagenarian residing in Daping Village, Huangbao Town in Baokang County, a hand grenade was found.

The hand grenade appeared to be in good condition with the fuse still attached, carrying the risk of explosion at any time. The rusty body of the grenade also showed clear dents from being used to strike objects, with the wooden handle worn smooth and shiny from long-term use.

This particular hand grenade was picked up by Grandma Qin over twenty years ago while working on her own land, mistaking it for a hammer due to its resemblance. She brought it back home and used it for pounding Sichuan peppercorns, cracking walnuts, and nailing things in her daily life.

On June 23rd, when Grandma Qin asked workers to demolish her old house, one of them recognized the object as a hand grenade. This discovery startled the elderly woman, prompting her to report it to the authorities out of fear.

In recent years, cases of discovering hand grenades in rural China have been frequently reported.

Similarly, a villager in Linquan County, Fuyang City, Anhui Province found out that the “hammer” he had been using for two years was actually a hand grenade, complete with a functional fuse, posing a constant risk of explosion if thrown.

In Nanzhangcheng Town, Zhi Shakou Village, Jingxing County, Hebei Province, a villager unearthed 16 hand grenades and 12 grenades while renovating his house in the corner of the yard.

Local elders in the village explained that during wartime, military units were stationed in the area, and when the locals found the grenades, they mistook them for weights.
