Former Deputy Secretary of the Guizhou Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection, Zhang Ping, was sentenced to 13 years in prison in the first instance, accused of illegally accepting a total of more than 47.72 million yuan in assets.
On June 30, the Tianjin First Intermediate People’s Court publicly pronounced the verdict of Zhang Ping, former Deputy Secretary of the Guizhou Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection and former Deputy Director of the Provincial Supervision Commission, for bribery. Zhang Ping was sentenced to 13 years in prison and fined 4 million yuan.
The court stated that from the first half of 2008 to December 2023, Zhang Ping, taking advantage of his positions as Director of the Comprehensive Office of the Guizhou Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection, member of the Guizhou City Party Committee, Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission, Deputy Secretary of the Guizhou City Party Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Guizhou Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection, Deputy Director of the Provincial Supervision Commission, used his powers and the conveniences formed by his authority or status to seek benefits for relevant units and individuals in project contracting, financing and loans, case handling, and job promotion, directly or through others illegally accepting a total of more than 47.72 million yuan in assets.
On April 3, 2024, it was officially announced that Zhang Ping was under investigation. Before his downfall, Zhang Ping ranked second among the three Deputy Secretaries and Deputy Directors of the Guizhou Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision.
On October 7 of the same year, it was officially announced that Zhang Ping was expelled from the Party and handed over to the judicial authorities. On January 9 of this year, the Supreme People’s Court of the Communist Party of China announced that Zhang Ping was prosecuted, and the first trial was held on April 17.
Public records show that Zhang Ping was born in August 1964 in Nanzhang, Hubei Province. He started working in July 1986 and worked in Guizhou for many years, serving as Deputy Director and Director of the Comprehensive Office of the Guizhou Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection, Deputy Director of the Provincial Supervision Commission, member of the Guizhou City Party Committee, Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission, Deputy Secretary of the Guizhou City Party Committee, among other positions. In November 2016, he was appointed as the Party Group Secretary of the Standing Committee of the People’s Congress of Anshun City, and in January of the following year, he became the Director of the Standing Committee of the People’s Congress of Anshun City.
In April 2017, Zhang Ping was appointed Deputy Secretary of the Guizhou Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection; in February 2018, he also served as Deputy Director of the Guizhou Provincial Supervision Committee until he was investigated.
