Hezbollah attacks, causes 10 injuries, hitting Israel’s third largest city for the first time.

Israeli police said on Monday (October 7) that Hezbollah has attacked Haifa, the third largest city in Israel, and other areas. Media reports indicated that a total of 10 people were injured in the northern region of Israel.

Hezbollah stated that they targeted the Carmel military base in southern Haifa and launched multiple Fadi-1 rockets. However, Israeli authorities reported that the rockets and fragments scattered around the city. Police stated that some buildings and properties were damaged, with several minor injuries reported and some individuals sent to nearby hospitals.

Two rockets reportedly hit Haifa, injuring at least 5 people. This appears to be the first time Hezbollah has penetrated the air defense system to strike this northern Israeli city. Haifa, a port city on the Mediterranean coast, nestled against Mount Carmel, is Israel’s third-largest city after Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.

Additionally, five rockets struck Tiberias, located 65 kilometers (40 miles) away.

Rambam Hospital in Haifa mentioned that they were treating 6 patients following the attack. The hospital stated that one person was “lightly to moderately injured,” while four others sustained “minor injuries” from shrapnel. The sixth patient was receiving treatment for anxiety symptoms.

Magen David Adom in Israel reported treating two individuals at the scene, a 13-year-old boy with head injuries from shrapnel and a 22-year-old man struck by glass shattered in an explosion.

Earlier, the Israeli Defense Forces intercepted five rockets targeting the city but were unable to stop all of them from hitting the ground. The IDF also shared images of where the rockets hit on the social media platform X.

Israeli officials said that Hezbollah had launched over 100 rockets towards the border areas on Sunday. Simultaneously, Israel continued large-scale bombings in southern Beirut and surrounding areas of Lebanon.

The Israeli military revealed that they deployed warplanes to strike Hezbollah’s intelligence headquarters in Beirut, including intelligence collection sites, command centers, and other infrastructure.

They conducted airstrikes on Hezbollah’s weapon storage facilities in the Beirut area over the past few hours, with a secondary explosion occurring after the attack, indicating the presence of actual weaponry.

Military operations also targeted Hezbollah objectives in southern Lebanon and the Beqaa province, including weapon storage facilities, infrastructure, command centers, and missile launchers.

The IDF accused Hezbollah of deliberately concealing command centers and weapons under civilian residential areas in downtown Beirut, endangering civilian safety.

Lebanese authorities claimed that Israeli bombings in the past two weeks have resulted in over 1,400 deaths. However, the statistics did not differentiate between Hezbollah fighters and civilians.
