Andy Lau Apologizes for Dangerous Stunt of Singing on a High Platform in Shanghai

Hong Kong artist Andy Lau, 62, kicked off the first of six concerts at the Mercedes-Benz Cultural Center in Shanghai on July 5th. During the concert, a fan captured a moment where Andy Lau, in a risky move, kneeled and nearly slipped off the 4-meter high stage, leaving many in the audience gasping in shock.

In the performance of the song “Practice,” Lau made a running motion on stage according to the lyrics. When he knelt down, the momentum caused him to slide a distance, almost falling off the elevated platform. His left knee even dangled over the edge, causing fans below to scream in fear. Fortunately, Lau managed to stop in time, narrowly avoiding a potential disaster, leaving the audience breathless with relief.

In another risky move, Lau stood at the edge of the descending platform, nearly misstepping and falling off. Many netizens expressed concern, calling the performance “too dangerous” and suggesting that Lau should refrain from such risky actions, especially given his age. They advised him to focus on singing steadily instead of incorporating such dangerous stunts into his performances.

On July 6th, Lau publicly apologized during the concert, admitting, “I’m sorry for the very risky move I made yesterday.” He expressed surprise at how slippery the stage was and admitted to being extremely frightened at that moment. Lau asked for understanding from the audience and emphasized that he would not engage in similarly high-risk performance moves in the future.
