China’s Color TV Sales Hit Nearly a 10-Year Low Last Year, With 27.63 Million Units Sold

Recently, Beijing Owiyun Network Big Data Technology Co., Ltd. (AVC) disclosed that in 2025, only 27.63 million color TVs were sold in China throughout the year, hitting a nearly 10-year low – directly reverting back to the level of a decade ago.

In-depth analysis and inventory of the financial reports of the major listed companies in the domestic television industry in 2025 revealed by the Daily Economic News on May 5th that the once well-known “Kangjia Television” is now in the worst situation due to severe losses. Its stock has been labeled with the “*ST” hat and is facing the risk of delisting.

Hisense and TCL have found new growth engines in overseas markets, “no longer stubbornly fighting in the domestic market”. They rely on selling high-end large televisions and global sales to generate profits.

Skyworth Group and Sichuan Changhong, realizing that TVs are no longer selling well, have ventured into new businesses such as new energy. Now, their “second curve” has surpassed the traditional color TV business.

The report stated that between “heaven and hell” lies a microcosm of the Chinese color TV industry in an era of stock game competition. When the domestic market growth reaches its peak, seeking growth overseas, targeting the high-end market, and exploring new businesses has become the only way forward for all players.

The topic of only selling 27.63 million TVs throughout 2025 has sparked discussions among internet users.

A user named “Pomegranate Blossom Summer Rain” commented: “Turning on the TV is all about advertisements, two remotes, not to mention that not only do all the elderly in the house not know how to use them, but even young people find it cumbersome to operate.”

This post has struck a chord with netizens: “Advertisements are everywhere,” “A flood of ads taking over the screen,” “This is not a TV, it’s an ad player.”

User “Zhebei little pig run fast” expressed disbelief: “Over 20 million TVs were actually sold, who bought them for children?”

Some netizens replied that there should be a TV at home, as the elderly and children need to watch TV.

User “tadaebabbb” criticized the situation: “The situation is bleak, they are ruining themselves. Watching TV requires a membership, playing TV games also requires a membership, without money, life becomes difficult.”
