Ukrainian military officials stated that on Monday (June 22), they attacked a factory in Voronezh, Russia, that produces missile electronic equipment. The governor of Voronezh oblast reported that the attack resulted in the deaths of five people and injuries to dozens.
On Monday, the Ukrainian Armed Forces General Staff released a statement on the social media platform Telegram, indicating that Ukrainian forces used air-launched cruise missiles to strike the factory in Voronezh oblast. They described the factory as a “key component” of the Russian defense industry production system, located in a city less than 200 kilometers (125 miles) from the Ukrainian border.
In their statement, the organization wrote: “It manufactures electronic equipment for Russian missiles, particularly for the ‘Iskander’ tactical missile system.”
Governor Alexander Gusev of Voronezh oblast expressed on Telegram that the main target of the attack was an industrial enterprise on the left bank of the Voronezh River in the capital city of Voronezh.
He mentioned that one factory was damaged in the attack, with “five fatalities and dozens of residents seeking medical assistance, but most were sent home after receiving treatment.” However, he did not specify the nature of the facility.
Gusev also reported that ten apartment buildings and six private residences were damaged in the attack. He added that the air defense forces destroyed several fast-flying targets over the city of Voronezh, while warning local residents to be vigilant against missile attacks.
Commander of the Ukrainian drone forces, Robert Brovdi, stated that his troops participated in the operation alongside other Ukrainian forces.
The Ukrainian military disclosed that they also attacked a satellite communications center in Dubna, Moscow oblast on Monday, noting that thick smoke was observed from the location, and the extent of damage is being assessed.
This is the latest strike by Ukrainian forces against the Russian defense industry.
In recent months, Ukraine has targeted Russian military production facilities multiple times, especially missile manufacturing enterprises.
Last week, Ukrainian drones also attacked the only oil refinery in Moscow. This marked one of the largest aerial assaults launched by Ukrainian forces against the city since the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
