Shanghai Deputy District Chief Huang Chunyi was investigated on June 16, 2026. Huang Chunyi had interactions with the former Deputy Mayor of Shanghai, Chen Yujian, in the Yangpu District of Shanghai and within the Shanghai Red Cross system.
On June 16, 2026, according to a report from the Shanghai Municipal Discipline Inspection Commission and Supervisory Commission on the website of the Central Discipline Inspection Commission, Huang Chunyi, a member of the Party Committee of the Jinshan District Government in Shanghai and Deputy District Chief, is suspected of serious violations of discipline and law, and is under investigation.
It was publicly reported that just seven days before, Huang Chunyi was still participating in research work. On the afternoon of June 9, 2026, Huang Chunyi went to the Sports Bureau of Jinshan District to research the preparation and service guarantee work for the 18th Shanghai Sports Games.
Huang Chunyi, born in January 1978 in Hubei Daye, is a female with a bachelor’s degree in law. She started working in July 2000 and joined the Communist Party of China in April 2000. She has held various positions in the Yangpu District of Shanghai, including Chief of the Inspection Division of the Yangpu District Commission, Deputy Researcher of the Yangpu District Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, Director of the Changbai New Village Street Office in Yangpu District, Secretary of the Party Working Committee of the Kongjiang Road Street in Yangpu District, and a first-level researcher. Huang Chunyi was promoted to Deputy District Chief of Jinshan District on September 28, 2025.
Six days ago, on June 10, 2026, Shanghai Deputy Mayor Chen Yujian was removed from his position.
Public information shows that Chen Yujian, born in February 1970 in Tancheng, Shandong, was the Director of the High-Tech Industry Department and the Fixed Asset Investment Department, as well as Vice Chief Economist of the Shanghai Development and Reform Commission. He served as Deputy District Chief of Yangpu District in December 2011, transferred to Deputy District Chief of Songjiang District in May 2014, became District Chief of Songjiang District in August 2017, District Chief of Minhang District in January 2020, and finally became Deputy Mayor of Shanghai in December 2023, promoted to the vice-ministerial level.
Huang Chunyi and Chen Yujian had connections in their career paths. While Chen Yujian served as Deputy District Chief of Yangpu District from December 2011 to May 2014, Huang Chunyi held positions like Chief of the Inspection Division of the Yangpu District Commission. During Chen Yujian’s tenure as Shanghai Deputy Mayor and Chairman of the Shanghai Red Cross, he attended the 100th-anniversary promotional event of the Jinshan District Red Cross on May 8, 2025. After Huang Chunyi was promoted to Deputy District Chief of Jinshan District in September 2025, she was in charge of civil affairs, the Red Cross, and also became the Chairman of the Jinshan District Red Cross in February 2026.
A day before Huang Chunyi’s official announcement of being removed from office, commentator Jiang Wangzheng, who has been disclosing the movements of senior CCP officials, posted on X platform on June 15, 2026, alleging that Huang Chunyi had an improper romantic relationship with Chen Yujian during their university days. Huang Chunyi was identified by the Central Discipline Inspection Commission as Chen Yujian’s mistress and was questioned. Huang Chunyi’s cousin Huang Sheng, who is said to be Chen Yujian’s “white glove”, has reportedly flown from Hong Kong to Canada.
