Germany’s Earth Science Research Center (GFZ) reported on Thursday night that a 5.0 magnitude earthquake struck the Tibet region. The quake’s epicenter was located in northern Tibet at a depth of 10 kilometers. The epicenter was hundreds of miles north of the border between Nepal and China, where a devastating mountain flood occurred the day before, resulting in hundreds of deaths and over 1300 people missing.
The Chinese state news agency, Xinhua, stated that the Ministry of Water Resources has instructed local authorities to closely monitor barrier lakes and rainfall conditions. They have also sent a team of experts to Jilong County in Xinjiang following the border area’s recent natural disasters.
