Apple’s Price Reduction Triggers Chain Reaction, Domestic Smartphones Spark Price War

Recently, with Apple launching a price promotion in mainland China, a wave of price reductions has swept through the domestic mobile phone market in China. Not only Apple, but also domestic brands such as Huawei, Xiaomi, Honor, Vivo, and OPPO have simultaneously announced price reductions or subsidy policies.

From e-commerce platforms, it was reported on May 21st by Dahe News that starting from 12:00 a.m. on May 21st, several domestic mobile phone brands suddenly adjusted their prices. Huawei phones are now available with a 2000 yuan discount voucher, Xiaomi 17Max offers up to 1200 yuan in trade-in subsidies, REDMI K90 Pro Max has a direct discount of 520 yuan, Honor has reduced prices by up to 1300 yuan, and OPPO Find X9 Pro is reduced by at least 800 yuan.

Staff from e-commerce platforms stated that following the official price reductions by brands on May 15th and the nationwide presence on all channels on May 19th, the platform has introduced a triple offer of “official price reduction + national subsidy + platform coupon.” This has further lowered the price of flagship Android phones by 400-700 yuan, making it the lowest price of the year.

In addition, Xiaomi’s official Weibo account announced that the price of Xiaomi 15 Ultra has been reduced by 1500 yuan.

On May 15th at 10:00, Huawei also announced a promotional activity, with the Huawei Mate X6 receiving a 3000 yuan discount. An employee from a Huawei authorized store stated that both the Mate X6 and Mate X7 folding screen phones from Huawei have reduced prices. Among them, the Mate X6, released in November 2024, has seen a reduction of 3000 yuan for each configuration. The 256GB Mate X6, previously priced at 12999 yuan, is now only 9999 yuan, marking the first time it has fallen below the 10,000 yuan mark since its release. The Mate X7 has seen a reduction of 1000 yuan for each configuration.

It is worth noting that Apple announced earlier a price reduction for iPhone, with the iPhone 17 series seeing a price drop. Through various subsidy conditions, the final price for a trade-in can be as low as 4499 yuan.

According to the report, journalists from the media outlets visited Zhengzhou Zhihuicheng and Bainao Hui to witness the market heat and consumer conditions in the midst of the price reductions.

One merchant mentioned, “Currently, Apple prices have dropped by nearly 2000 yuan, including a fixed amount of 1000 yuan and a trade-in subsidy. Apple’s self-operated store on JD.com also has a 7-day price guarantee policy, while other brands do not for the time being.” The merchant also revealed that in recent days, Apple has seen a significant increase in sales, up to 6-7 times.

Furthermore, from the end of May until Jingdong’s 618 promotion period, Jingdong will launch a “live broadcast price comparison·if it’s expensive, we’ll compensate” campaign. Users participating in the “live broadcast price comparison” can potentially claim compensation if they find lower prices for the same product on other platforms. In the case of a successful comparison, not only can the onsite prices be reduced, but there is also a chance to win a 100,000 yuan grand prize, iPhones, supermarket cards, and other rewards.

With multiple brands focusing on price reductions, related conversations have sparked discussions on social media platforms. Some consumers believe that Apple’s price reduction has led to domestic brands following suit, while others indicated that in the current environment, “it is more cost-effective to directly choose Apple.”

“xx______925”: Thanks to Apple!

“Keep it simple mindset”: Apple has reduced prices by over a thousand, will domestic brands dare not to follow suit? Otherwise, Apple will capture the market share within half a month.

“Sichuan-Shaanxi Xi”: Apple still has a conscience.

“Little Bun Zyt”: So just buy an Apple phone directly.
