Three senior officials of China’s Agricultural and Industrial Party die of illness, including former deputy of vice-ministerial level Chen Zhu’s former aide.

On May 12, 2026, three prominent figures from the China National Agricultural Workers’ Democratic Party (AGDP) passed away. Xie Qingsheng, former Vice Chairman of the AGDP Central Committee, and a former Deputy Governor of Guizhou Province, Su Wenjin, former Chairman of the AGDP Xiamen Municipal Committee, and Shu Ziyao, former Chairman of the AGDP Yunnan Provincial Committee, all died on the same day.

Xie Qingsheng, born in October 1954 in Guiyang, Guizhou, was a long-time member of the AGDP. He held various positions in Guizhou, serving as Vice President of Guizhou Industrial University and Guizhou University before becoming Deputy Governor of Guizhou Province from January 2008 to January 2013. Subsequently, he served as Vice Chairman of the Guizhou Provincial Committee of the AGDP, rising to become the Deputy Chairman of the AGDP Central Committee under the leadership of Chairman Chen Zhu.

Chen Zhu, who rose to prominence in Shanghai and was a close associate of Jiang Zemin’s son, Jiang Mianheng, had a significant influence on the AGDP. Chen Zhu served as Minister of the Ministry of Health of the People’s Republic of China from June 2007 to March 2013. He also held the position of Vice Chairman of the AGDP Central Committee for two consecutive terms from December 2012 to December 2017, working closely with Xie Qingsheng.

On the same day as Xie Qingsheng’s passing, Su Wenjin, a member of the AGDP and former President of Jimei University in Xiamen, passed away at the age of 71 after battling illness. Su Wenjin, born in November 1956 in Chaoyang District, Shantou City, Guangdong, was a renowned expert in microbiology. He had a distinguished career in academia, eventually becoming President of Jimei University from September 2009 to February 2017.

Furthermore, the AGDP Yunnan Provincial Committee announced the passing of Shu Ziyao, the former Chief of the third session of the committee and former Deputy Director of the Yunnan Provincial Health Department. Shu Ziyao, who passed away at the age of 89 in Kunming, Yunnan due to an incurable illness, left a significant legacy in the field of healthcare in the province.

The China National Agricultural Workers’ Democratic Party, ranked fifth among the so-called democratic parties in China, mainly consists of high-level professionals in the medical and health sectors. The recent losses of Xie Qingsheng, Su Wenjin, and Shu Ziyao have deeply impacted the AGDP and the communities they served. Their contributions to their respective fields and dedication to the party will be remembered and honored by those who knew them.
