Elderly Man in South Australia Dies After Riding Bicycle and Colliding with Sheep

Earlier this week, an elderly man riding a bicycle in the Adelaide Hills region collided with a stray sheep and died.

According to a report from The Advertiser, on April 29th around 12:30 pm, the emergency services received a distress call from Watts Gully Road in the Forreston area near Gumeracha.

The caller, requesting to remain anonymous, stated that he and his son were tending to their cattle in their nearby paddock when they discovered an injured man, but they did not witness the accident itself. The father and son immediately rushed to the injured man, with the son making the emergency call for assistance. While waiting for the ambulance to arrive, they did their best to aid the injured man.

“It’s really unfortunate, there are often stray sheep around here.” “When we found him, he had no visible injuries, but he appeared to be unconscious,” the caller recalled. “He was shaking and his breathing was irregular. His breathing sounded like snoring.”

The 76-year-old man from Birdwood town was taken to the hospital for treatment due to severe injuries and unfortunately passed away three days later. This incident marks the 33rd death on South Australian roads this year.
