Indian man reported as ‘floating corpse’, wakes up suddenly as police fetch him.

In a recent incident in Telangana, India, a pond was discovered to have a “floating corpse.” Local police reportedly rushed to the scene to handle the situation. However, when the police attempted to drag the motionless man from the water onto the shore, he surprisingly stood up on his own, leaving everyone stunned. It turned out that he was not dead but had simply fallen asleep on the water’s surface after getting drunk and spending a few hours in the pond.

According to a report by The Indian Express, the incident took place at a pond in Hanumakonda. The man had been lying in the pond for a total of 5 hours, causing local residents to mistakenly believe that he had passed away, prompting them to alert the authorities.

A short video shared by Indian editor Sudhakar Udumula on the social media platform Twitter showed a partially naked man floating on the water’s edge of the pond, with police trying to pull him ashore. Suddenly, he woke up and got up on his own, leading to a moment of laughter among the police officers and bystanders.

In the post, Udumula mentioned that the man was a quarry worker from Kavali who had been lying motionless in the pond from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. on that day.

Udumula explained, “To everyone’s surprise, the man suddenly regained consciousness. It was later revealed that he was not deceased but had consumed alcohol to the point of intoxication.”

“He explained to the police that he had been working at the granite quarry for the past 10 days, enduring 12-hour shifts. Exhausted from the hectic schedule, he decided to cool off in the pond, eventually falling asleep in the water,” Udumula added.

In response to Udumula’s shared video, some netizens commented, “Watched it 5 times, it cracked me up. The first 10 seconds are the funniest.”

A similar mishap occurred in Bangkok, Thailand in 2022, where a man was found floating in a canal and was mistakenly identified as a dead body. It was later discovered that he was not deceased but was actually meditating when a kind individual jumped into the water to rescue him.
