A Chinese woman was recently abducted by four Thai men from a hotel in Bangkok. The kidnappers originally planned to take her to Mae Sot, a town near the border with Myanmar, but she managed to escape halfway and sought help from local residents with her hands tied. Thai police immediately took action, arresting two suspects that same night, while the other two suspects were apprehended the following day.
According to reports from local media such as the Bangkok Post, the incident took place late Sunday night (August 23rd) local time. The victim was taken by four Thai men in a black Nissan Teana sedan. When the car reached Ratchadamnoen Road in Nai Muang Village, Muang District, the woman bravely escaped.
The report mentioned that at first, the woman thought it was her tour guide coming to pick her up at the hotel and got into the suspects’ black sedan. When the other three men also got into the car not far from the hotel, the woman realized the danger and tried to get out but was subjected to violence by the suspects.
The woman stated that her phone was stolen, her hands were tied, and the suspects assaulted her with their elbows on her mouth. In images from the report, the woman can be seen with injuries to her mouth and swollen wrists with marks from being bound.
The woman was taken to the hospital for treatment that night. Thai police immediately traced the involved vehicle, shot out its tires, and arrested two suspects. The arrested men, aged 24 and 41, are both from Mae Sot, a Thai border city adjacent to Myanmar. Authorities believe that the criminal gang intended to kidnap the woman to Mae Sot and then transport her to Myanmar.
The other two suspects abandoned the car and fled that night. It was reported that the two fugitives were captured on Monday (August 24th).
Currently, the Chinese woman is still in police care, awaiting further questioning. Initial investigations indicate that the woman may have been deceived by a Chinese friend residing in Singapore.
The friend allegedly told the woman to travel to Thailand, assuring her that someone would pick her up. Authorities suspect that this incident may have been premeditated, with the involvement of familiar relations to lure the woman to Thailand and hand her over to the kidnappers.
After questioning the suspects, all four confessed to being hired to participate in this case. The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
