Sichuan’s Zizhong County hit by 4.5-magnitude earthquake, shaking 27 times in 11 days

On the afternoon of April 20th, a 4.5 magnitude earthquake struck Zizhong County, Neijiang City, Sichuan Province. This marks the 27th earthquake of magnitude 3 or above in the county since April 10th. The China Earthquake Administration has initiated a Level IV emergency response.

According to the China Earthquake Networks Center, the earthquake occurred at 15:56 on April 20th in Zizhong County, Neijiang City, Sichuan Province, with a magnitude of 4.5 and a depth of 7 kilometers.

The villages within a 5-kilometer radius of the epicenter include Laowangtian, Ganying’an, Huomasan, Tiangongtang, Zengjiawan, Heyankou, Shuijingwan, Yangjiazuicun, Zhujia Chang, and Daobei. Towns within a 20-kilometer radius include Gongmin Town, Shuanghe Town, Yinshan Town, Mingxin Temple Town, Quanan Town, Shijia Town, Gaoshi Town, Chenjia Town, Jingmin Town, and Longhui Town.

The epicenter is 10 kilometers from Zizhong County, 21 kilometers from Dongxing District, 21 kilometers from the central district, 27 kilometers from Weiyuan County, 37 kilometers from Da’an District, 21 kilometers from Neijiang City, and 133 kilometers from Chengdu City. The average altitude within a 5-kilometer radius of the epicenter is approximately 399 meters.

Residents in Neijiang, Zigong, Leshan, Nanchong, Chengdu, Chongqing, and other areas have reported feeling the tremor. As of now, there have been no reports of casualties or collapsed buildings.

According to the official website of the Sichuan Provincial Seismological Bureau, from April 10th to the present, there have been 27 earthquakes of magnitude 3 or above in Zizhong County, with today’s 4.5 magnitude earthquake being the strongest.
