Taiwan’s Hsinchu, known as the “City of Glass,” boasts a long-standing history of exquisite glass craftsmanship.
The Concord Park Foundation announced on May 29th that they will be collaborating with the Hsinchu City Cultural Bureau to launch a two-month art exchange program called “Arts Talk of Chrystal Park in 2024.”
This exchange will mark the first time where art venues will take center stage in the exchange program. Citizens will be introduced to the Hsinchu City Art Museum, the Hsinchu City Glass Art Museum, and four local artists at venues such as Concord Windows & Doors, Governor’s Island, and Concord Park.
The Hsinchu City Cultural Bureau will also promote Concord Park through art venues and networking platforms, introducing it to the people of Taiwan.
Mr. Chen Qiugui, Chairman of Concord Windows & Doors, spoke to our reporter and mentioned the close association of their products with glass. Hsinchu City is Taiwan’s largest glass production hub and houses the country’s only Glass Art Museum. The collaboration between the two sides marks the first time that the Concord Park Foundation has partnered with a government agency in Taiwan. The aim is to showcase Taiwan through this exchange program.
Huang Lixiang, the Art Director of “Beautiful Things to Do,” and curator of the “Hsinchu Glass Art Museum,” stated that this project originated from her book “A Gallery in Formosa,” which links articles about New York and Hsinchu, further solidifying the international exchange program between the two cities.
The four Hsinchu-based artists participating in the art exchange are Li Guoyang, Huang Qiongyi, Zhuang Zhihui, and Cai Yutian. Li Guoyang, a recipient of various awards such as the Taiwan Golden Glass Award first prize and National Craft Award third prize, is currently showcasing his fifty-year glass art career exhibition “Shadow of Time – Li Guoyang’s Fifty-Year Glass Art Tour” at the Hsinchu City Glass Art Museum. A miniature version of his iconic work “Hsinchu Treasures” will be exhibited in New York.
Huang Qiongyi’s exhibit features embossed glass artwork titled “Time Series” inspired by old Taiwanese houses. Zhuang Zhihui will present a piece created in New York, echoing the significance of Taiwan-US relations.
Cai Yutian, a recipient of numerous international awards, will showcase his large-scale sculpture “Spirit in Water, Soul in Jade,” along with mirror-finished stainless steel works “Above the Atmosphere” and “Everlasting Vitality” at Concord Park.
Concord Park in New York is operated by the Crystal Window & Door System foundation. Founded by Thomas Chen in 2010, the foundation covers nearly 360 acres of art park in Pawling, New York state, showcasing art and fostering exchanges with artists from around the world.
