Jiangsu Provincial CPPCC Vice Chairman Wang Hao Under Investigation Despite Public Appearance Last Month

On May 20th, Wang Hao, a member of the Jiangsu Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and its vice chairman, was placed under investigation. Just last month, Wang Hao had made a public appearance.

According to the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) announcement on the 20th, Wang Hao, the vice chairman of the Jiangsu Provincial CPPCC, is suspected of “serious violations of discipline and law” and is currently under investigation.

Prior to being investigated, the last time Wang Hao appeared in public was last month when he conducted research in Yangzhou on April 17th and 18th.

Wang Hao is the 26th high-ranking official to be publicly announced as implicated in corruption since 2024. This month alone, three delegates of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China have been implicated. In addition to Wang Hao, there are Zhu Shixi, the Secretary of the Nanyang City Committee of Henan Province, and Tang Renjian, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

At the age of 59, Wang Hao, originally from Dangshan, Anhui Province, has held various positions in the Jiangsu officialdom, including Mayor of Pizhou City, Deputy Mayor of Xuzhou City, and Secretary of the Suqian Municipal Committee. In January 2023, he was appointed as the Vice Chairman of the Jiangsu Provincial CPPCC, a position he held until his current investigation.

During his tenure in Suqian City, Wang Hao held positions such as Deputy Secretary, Deputy Mayor, Mayor, Secretary of the Municipal Committee, and Chairman of the Municipal People’s Congress Standing Committee. In recent years, four former secretary of the Suqian Municipal Committee have come under investigation. Apart from Wang Hao, the other three individuals are Qiuhe, former Deputy Secretary of the Yunnan Provincial Party Committee, Zhang Xinshi, former Party Secretary of Jiangsu Communications Holdings, and Miao Ruilin, former Deputy Governor of Jiangsu Province.
