A 25-year-old female Chinese student studying abroad in South Korea’s Gyeongsangbuk-do Gyeongsan City was found dead after being missing for several days, and a man originally reported the disappearance has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
According to reports from various media outlets, Gyeongsan police in Gyeongsangbuk-do, South Korea, announced on Tuesday, August 25th, that they had arrested a 31-year-old man suspected of murder and launched an investigation. The police discovered the female student’s body in the man’s residence in the Haryang District of Gyeongsan City. They revealed that the two individuals had known each other previously.
The female student was a graduate student at Daegu Catholic University and had entered South Korea on August 14th to prepare to receive her graduate certificate on the 21st and return home on the 23rd. It was reported that she lost contact with her family on the evening of August 20th, a day before she was supposed to receive her certificate, and her last whereabouts were near the Dongdaegu Station.
The man reported his girlfriend missing to the police on August 21st by calling 112. During the investigation, inconsistencies were found in his statement, leading the police to suspect his involvement in a crime. On the evening of the 25th, at 7:30, they executed an arrest warrant and apprehended him on the streets of Haryang District in Gyeongsan City. The female student was later found dead in his nearby residence.
The police are conducting an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death, and they are investigating the motive and circumstances of the case involving the man, planning to search his residence and other relevant locations for further evidence.
The case of the missing Chinese student has been widely circulated in the media and social media in China. According to the family’s statement to the media, the female student, using the alias Wenwen, seemed normal in the initial days after arriving in South Korea. She maintained contact with her family from August 14th to 19th, and her condition was stable. Around 8 PM on August 20th, after parting ways with a friend near Daegu Catholic University, she lost contact. The family expressed that she was emotionally stable before losing contact, showing no signs of abnormal behavior.
