New York State Senator Jessica Ramos, a member of the Democratic Party, officially announced her bid for the 2025 New York City mayoral election on September 13 through social media platforms.
In a post on the X platform (formerly known as Twitter), Senator Ramos wrote: “For the past six years, as a state senator, I have been fighting on the front lines for our city. Together, we have gone through the toughest battles and achieved victory. Now, we must bring this fight to City Hall. Everyone has a place in our city.” The post also included a link to her campaign website.
Ramos represents the 13th district of Queens in the State Senate, and she was successfully reelected earlier this year, marking her sixth year in the State Senate.
In the campaign video released, Ramos also touched on the current controversy surrounding Mayor Eric Adams’ staff being investigated by the FBI. Ramos assured voters that they “never have to worry about who she works for or who she takes money from,” but rather that she aims to “bring trust back to City Hall.”
In terms of policies, Ramos is currently focusing on six main areas: affordable housing, public safety, the environment, immigration, education and childcare, and healthcare. As a progressive Democrat, Ramos’ public safety policies include combating gun violence, opposing hate crimes, ensuring road safety, law enforcement accountability, as well as providing funding for mental health support groups and violence intervention programs.
The 2025 New York City mayoral election is set to take place on November 4th next year. Currently, within the Democratic Party, candidates include incumbent Mayor Eric Adams, City Comptroller Brad Lander, State Senator Zellnor Myrie, and former City Comptroller Scott Stringer.
