Recently, there has been a series of senior Chinese Communist Party (CCP) military leaders passing away due to illness. Incomplete statistics show that at least more than forty CCP generals have “died of illness,” with Lieutenant General Zheng Jiagai, the Deputy Commander of the People’s Armed Police Force, being the latest example.
On April 22, according to official sources, Lieutenant General Zheng Jiagai of the People’s Armed Police Force “failed to respond to medical treatment” and passed away on April 19 in Beijing at the age of 63. However, the authorities did not disclose the cause of Zheng Jiagai’s illness.
Public records indicate that Zheng Jiagai, a native of Shimen County, Hunan Province, joined the military in 1979 and joined the CCP in 1984. He held various positions such as Deputy Chief of Staff and Deputy Commander of a group army, Air Force Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of the Jinan Military Region, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Jinan Military Region, Chief of Staff of the Northern Theater Command, and Chief of Staff of the People’s Armed Police Force.
Zheng Jiagai was promoted to the rank of Major General in 2011, then to Major General in the People’s Armed Police Force after 2017, and to Lieutenant General in the People’s Armed Police Force in 2019. In 2020, he was appointed as the Deputy Commander of the People’s Armed Police Force.
According to official media reports, Zheng Jiagai is a descendant of General Zheng Dongguo of the Nationalist Army. During the Second Sino-Japanese War, Zheng Dongguo served as the Deputy Commander of the Northeast Anti-Communist General Headquarters. He surrendered to the CCP during the Liaoshen Campaign in 1948.
