On Thursday, following the conviction of Donald Trump, Shaun Maguire, a super wealthy partner at Sequoia Capitol and former Democratic Party donor, announced a donation of $300,000 to the former president’s campaign team.
In a tweet posted on Thursday night, Maguire stated, “I just donated $300,000 to President Trump, the timing is not a coincidence.”
In a subsequent lengthy post, he explained the reasons for his substantial donation to Trump and why he is “ready to lose friends.”
“Now, in 2024, I believe this is one of the most important elections of my life – I support Trump. I know I will lose friends because of this,” Maguire wrote in the post. “Some people will refuse to do business with me. The media may demonize me, as they have done to many before me.”
“But despite that, I still believe it is the right thing to do,” he said. “I refuse to live in a society where people are afraid to speak out.”
Maguire revealed that during the 2016 election, he blindly believed in the media’s propaganda and was “scared to death by Trump,” ultimately deciding to donate to the Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
By August 16, 2021, due to President Joe Biden’s hasty withdrawal from Afghanistan, Maguire decided to “never” support Biden or “any senior officials in his government.” Maguire recalled being deployed to Afghanistan in 2012 while working for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).
“I used to fly out of KAIA (Kabul International Airport), usually on a Black Hawk helicopter to Bagram Airfield (BAF) but sometimes on a C-130 to Kandahar (KAF),” Maguire said. He criticized the withdrawal from Afghanistan, stating, “For political gain, we abandoned one of the world’s most strategically important air bases and Kabul’s stability, so that President Biden could claim to have ended the war in Afghanistan.”
Maguire then elaborated on his support for the Republican candidate in November, citing issues such as Israel, border security, and technological advancements, which are key issues for voters nationwide.
He noted that while he may not agree with everything Trump advocates for, he believes that “our justice system is becoming a weapon against Trump.”
“Simply put, that’s part of the reason why I support him,” he said.
“The United States is the greatest country in the world. But America has had a terrible decade. We have a solid constitution, abundant natural resources, and a diverse population,” Maguire said. “The way out of our predicament is to focus on our strengths, namely liberty and hard work. We need to start building again. Good luck to President Trump.”
On Thursday, Trump was convicted on all 34 felony charges brought by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. Trump was accused of falsifying business records related to the 2016 election. After two days of deliberation, the jury of 12 announced the final verdict, with Republicans and many legal experts expressing dissatisfaction with the ruling.
Trump is scheduled to appear in court for sentencing on July 11, just four days before the Republican National Convention (RNC).
Shortly after the announcement of the verdict on Thursday, Trump briefly addressed the media, stating that he is a “very innocent man” and vowing to “keep fighting.”
“This was a manipulated, disgraceful trial. The real judgment will be made by the people on November 5, they know what happened here, everyone knows what happened here,” he said.
Trump is the Republican presidential candidate and will once again face off against Biden in the November election.
