Traveling Australian legal scholar Yuan Hongbing recently claimed that the second generation of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) red elites has changed their strategy and is inciting CCP leader Xi Jinping to launch a military attack on Taiwan in order to seize Xi’s power.
In an interview with Epoch Times on May 31st, Yuan Hongbing stated that Xi Jinping has a fundamental strategy to conquer the free Taiwan through a Taiwan Strait war and then take a crucial step towards global expansion of communist authoritarianism. “Only in this way could he possibly surpass Mao Zedong, which is his fantasy,” Yuan Hongbing said.
According to Yuan Hongbing, the red second generation of the CCP, represented by former Political Commissar of the National Defense University Liu Yazhou, opposed Xi Jinping’s strategy of initiating a Taiwan Strait war. Liu Yazhou believed that Xi’s actions would inevitably end in a painful failure. This is mainly because Xi Jinping is not a leader with the qualities of a strategist and therefore cannot win a war. Many in the red second generation, including former Defense Minister Li Shangfu, share Liu Yazhou’s viewpoint.
Yuan Hongbing revealed the latest developments among some members of the red second generation within the CCP who deeply oppose Xi Jinping’s personal dictatorship. They believe that encouraging Xi Jinping to dig his own grave by launching a Taiwan Strait war could lead to his downfall before or during the war through a palace or military coup.
However, Yuan Hongbing emphasized that as democratic and resistance figures in China, their pursuit is freedom and democracy, and they would not encourage Xi Jinping to start a Taiwan Strait war. “We still adhere to the original view that a comprehensive people’s uprising is necessary to completely destroy the CCP’s tyranny.”
Yuan Hongbing, who once taught at Peking University and later served as the Dean of the School of Law at Guizhou Normal University before going into exile in Australia in 2004, continues to have interactions with the CCP system even after leaving China.
In January 3rd this year, Yuan Hongbing disclosed that a group of red second-generation members, led by Liu Yuan, son of Liu Shaoqi, had signed a joint petition calling for Xi Jinping’s resignation. These red second-generation members had formed three consensus, the first of which accusing Xi of “promoting wartime systems and preparing to launch a Taiwan Strait war.” Additionally, they suggested Beijing should abandon its policy of using military force against Taiwan and improve relations with developed countries.
In an interview with “Watch China” in February this year, Yuan Hongbing disclosed that on January 27th, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the CCP submitted a report to Xi Jinping and the Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, responsible for Taiwan affairs, Wang Huning, titled “Key Points of the United Front Strategy to Occupy the Legislative Yuan in Taiwan.” It was said that Xi Jinping intended to achieve the goal of the united front through the influence of Taiwan’s opposition parties in the Legislative Yuan.
Since taking office on May 20, President Lai Ching-te has recently faced massive public protests following the Legislative Yuan’s passage of a bill to expand its powers. Yuan Hongbing stated on May 24th to Central News Agency that news of unrest within the Legislative Yuan reported in February was provided by the red second-generation “who Xi Jinping, without the courage to shake, dared not confront.”
A joint research report titled “From Coercion to Capitulation: How China Can Take Taiwan Without a War” published by the American Business Research Institute and the Institute for War Studies on May 13 states that amid ongoing pressures from the CCP on Taiwan, international focus, including that of the United States, on how the CCP intends to use force to attack Taiwan, overlooks another approach taken by the CCP: to push Taiwan into a corner without resorting to military action, ultimately forcing its surrender.
Recently, Yuan Hongbing stated on the “Elite Forum” program that information from within the CCP system indicates that Xi Jinping will not launch large-scale operations against Taiwan before the U.S. elections. Xi Jinping sees the window between 2025 and 2027 as an opportunity to launch a Taiwan Strait war to conquer Taiwan.
