Kennedy Airport Terminal 5 Upgrade Welcomes Global Guests with a New York Flavor

On July 9th, the $100 million renovation project of Terminal 5 at Kennedy International Airport (JFK) was officially unveiled to the media and the public, showcasing the results of the upgrade. With a new batch of flagship dining brands opening one after another, the international aviation gateway now welcomes travelers from around the world with a fresh look, incorporating iconic New York dining brands and reflecting the city’s unique charm from the moment travelers step into the terminal.

The renovation has introduced over 40 new shops, dining options, and service facilities, with locally renowned brands representing diverse cultural backgrounds. These include the Italian culinary brand Eataly, The Halal Guys originating from the streets of Manhattan, and Nom Wah Bar under Nom Wah Tea Parlor, an iconic Chinatown establishment founded in 1920. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) expressed its desire to showcase New York’s multicultural city image through locally distinctive dining brands.

According to the Port Authority, the goal of the Terminal 5 renovation is not only to enhance the traveler experience but also to create an international terminal that embodies the “New York spirit.” From dining brands to public art and spatial design, the entire terminal revolves around the same concept – bringing New York into the airport. Travelers here not only savor cuisine but also witness New York’s diverse culture, immigrant history, and urban vitality behind different brands. These brands representing the unique features of New York are set to shine on the world stage through this international aviation gateway.

In addition to Chinese dim sum, Eataly offers Italian dining and specialty foods, while The Halal Guys, rooted in Manhattan’s streets, bring the flavors of the city’s famous halal food trucks to the terminal. The convergence of brands from different cultural backgrounds in one space not only enriches travelers’ dining choices but also enhances the distinct New York City vibe of Terminal 5.

Terminal 5 serves as a critical operational hub for JetBlue at Kennedy International Airport and is an essential part of the Port Authority’s efforts to modernize JFK as a whole. As a vital gateway connecting New York to the world, Terminal 5 not only welcomes global travelers but also tells the story of the city through its most representative brands and public space design, showcasing the cultural diversity of this international metropolis.
