Recently, an 18-year-old candidate from Jiaozuo, Henan province, Wei Binjie, caused a stir online when he posted his ID card, transcript, and admission letter on the internet. The reason behind the buzz was that he was born on Qingming Festival (April 4th) and with a score of 444, he was admitted to the Modern Funeral Technology and Management major at Sanmenxia Vocational College of Social Management.

A few days ago, Wei Binjie shared the news of his admission to the major through his personal short video account, garnering nearly 390,000 likes and over 80,000 comments. This topic has sparked discussions across various social media platforms.

Netizens jokingly referred to him as the “chosen funeral guy”: “With a score of 444, choosing the funeral major, Henan candidate Wei Binjie directly becomes a sensation! Born on Qingming Festival on April 4th, scored 444 in the college entrance examination, and got admitted to the funeral major, the coincidence of triple 4s.”

Some netizens marveled at the extraordinary fate: “The most fateful coincidence in this year’s college entrance examination, dominating the internet! Wei Binjie, an 18-year-old candidate from Jiaozuo, Henan, embodies the extreme coincidence of triple 4s: born on April 4th, scored 444 in the college entrance exam, and finally admitted to the funeral major. The three sets of numbers perfectly match, creating a strong sense of atmosphere.”

On August 10th, Wei Binjie stated in an interview with “Extreme News” that the public’s interest in him may be due to the coincidences related to the number “4”. Being born on April 4th, scoring a total of 444 in the college entrance exam, and his birth date coinciding with Qingming Festival.

Wei Binjie expressed that choosing this major was primarily for employment considerations. Although his family can afford their basic livelihood, he hopes to improve the family’s financial situation in the future. His parents work in the express delivery industry, and he often helps out in his free time, gaining a deeper understanding of his parents’ hard work.

“I think being able to accompany someone on their final journey is quite good, and it can also solve employment issues.” However, his family is not entirely supportive of his choice. Wei mentioned that his father and second uncle hold more traditional views and do not want him to study in this field. His father also hopes he will switch majors in the future, but Wei is determined to persevere.

On August 12th, according to the “Red Star News,” Wei Binjie was confirmed by Sanmenxia Vocational College of Social Management to be a formally admitted student to the Modern Funeral Technology and Management major.

As reported by Dahe Daily in 2024, Sanmenxia Vocational College of Social Management’s Modern Funeral Technology and Management major was approved and began recruiting students in 2023, making it the sixth vocational school in China at the time to offer this major.
