Typhoon “Hua Jiasha” is expected to approach the coast of Guangdong, with strength comparable to that of “Tian Ge” and “Shan Zhu”, affecting various areas of Guangdong Province. Many places in Guangdong have announced the implementation of the “Five Suspensions” (suspending classes, work, production, transportation, and business operations). The railway department in mainland China has announced that all high-speed trains and regular trains in Guangdong Province will gradually stop operating from September 22nd and completely cease on the 23rd. Hong Kong has also declared that all schools will be closed for the next two days, with many supermarkets’ shelves emptied.
As of 5:00 pm today (September 22), the center of the super typhoon “Hua Jiasha” (super typhoon level) was located about 990 kilometers southeast of Yangjiang City, Guangdong Province, in the Bashi Strait, with maximum wind speeds near the center reaching 17 levels (60 meters per second).
The China Meteorological Administration issued an orange typhoon warning at 6:00 pm on Monday (September 22), forecasting that “Hua Jiasha” will move into the northeastern South China Sea on the early morning of the 23rd and make landfall along the coast of Guangdong, Shenzhen to Xuwen on the 24th (super typhoon or super typhoon level, 14-16 levels, 45-52 meters per second), gradually weakening after landfall.
Starting from September 23, Guangdong will be severely affected, with strong winds, heavy rain to torrential rain, posing an extremely severe defense situation. It is reported that the super typhoon “Hua Jiasha” is as intense as “Tian Ge” and has the same impact range as “Shan Zhu”. It is expected to make landfall on the central and western coastal areas of Guangdong on the 24th, with winds of up to level 8 covering almost the entire province, with a radius of level 12 winds reaching 80-120 kilometers.
Due to the impact of Typhoon “Hua Jiasha”, many places in Guangdong have announced the implementation of the “Five Suspensions”.
The Zhuhai Municipal Government announced that classes will be suspended all day on September 23rd and 24th, with the implementation of the “Five Suspensions” starting from the evening of the 23rd.
Huizhou City issued the “Five Suspensions” directive for the entire city at 6:00 pm on September 23.
Dongguan City started implementing the “Five Suspensions” measures in batches across the city from 3:00 pm on September 22. In addition, from 2:00 pm on September 23 to 6:00 am on September 25, all food delivery and courier services will be suspended in the city, with strict enforcement of business closure requirements by various food delivery platforms and courier companies. From 2:00 pm on September 23 to 6:00 am on September 25, all markets (including agricultural markets), shopping malls, commercial pedestrian streets, supermarkets, dining establishments, entertainment venues, trading places, parks, tourist attractions, exhibitions, and more will cease operations.
Dongguan City also decided to suspend classes all day on September 23rd and 24th, with the implementation of the “Five Suspensions” beginning on the evening of the 23rd. In addition, all ferry flights between Jiuzhou Port and Hong Kong from September 22 to 24 will be suspended; as for Zhongshan Port, some Hong Kong routes will be suspended on September 22, and all routes will be suspended from September 23 to 24.
According to Zhuhai Meteorological Bureau, the size of “Hua Jiasha” exceeds the entire Guangdong Province. However, after entering the South China Sea, it is expected to shrink in size, with its energy concentrated in the eye of the typhoon.
According to the Jiangmen Daily, the Jiangmen Municipal Government in Guangdong Province issued a notice on September 22 to implement the “Five Suspensions” citywide, with all kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, vocational schools, technical schools, and various educational institutions suspending classes starting on the 23rd.
A parent named Wang Xi in Raoping County, Chaozhou City, told Jiemian News that on the afternoon of the 22nd, they received an emergency notice from the school stating that classes would be suspended on the 23rd. Wang Xi was preparing to pick up their child from school at the time.
According to reports from Guangzhou Daily and Shenzhen TV News, the China Railway Guangzhou Bureau adjusted the operation plan for trains within its jurisdiction. Starting from 12:00 pm on September 23, high-speed and regular trains in Guangdong Province will gradually stop operating. On September 24, all high-speed and regular trains in Guangdong Province will be suspended for the entire day.
Some people have stocked up on food in advance. According to Guangdong Radio and Television, with the super typhoon “Hua Jiasha” approaching, a field visit on September 22 found that some shelves in Shenzhen’s supermarkets had been cleared out, with only chili peppers left.
The Education Bureau of Hong Kong announced on September 22 that all schools in Hong Kong will be closed for the next two days (September 23rd and 24th).
As the year’s strongest typhoon “Hua Jiasha” approaches, Hong Kong International Airport is considering a closure of up to 36 hours, with specific arrangements likely to be announced later in the evening of the 22nd.
Hong Kong media reported that shelves in many supermarkets in Hong Kong have been emptied of vegetables, meat, bread, instant noodles, and bottled water, with even more expensive organic vegetables sold out. Checkout lines at supermarkets are long, with the expected waiting time exceeding half an hour.
