Japanese University Cheating Scandal: Chinese Gunman Caught Confronting Exam Taker

In March of this year, during the entrance exam held by a university in Japan, a suspected case of impersonation during the exam occurred. A Chinese cram school teacher was caught pretending to be someone else to take the exam, and was discovered by the actual exam candidate at the exam venue, leading to the exposure of the incident. The police announced on Thursday (May 21) that the teacher was arrested.

According to a report by “Mainichi Shimbun”, the arrested individual is a 39-year-old Chinese cram school teacher named Li Bin, residing in Kawaguchi City, Saitama Prefecture. The police arrested him on charges of illegal entry into a building and forgery of official documents.

The police stated that Li Bin allegedly entered the entrance exam venue of a university in Setagaya Ward, Tokyo on March 4, pretending to be a Chinese male student in his teens participating in the exam. However, when he sat in the designated seat with the exam admission ticket, the real candidate also appeared in the exam hall. As both individuals had the same name on their admission tickets and residence cards, the university staff noticed something was amiss and promptly alerted the authorities.

According to police investigations, Li Bin admitted to the crime and confessed that he had accepted an assignment from an unknown individual via the messaging app WeChat, who promised to pay him if he took the exam on their behalf. When he entered the exam hall, he had a small camera and microphone concealed on him, and he had already filled in the exam paper with the candidate’s name before being discovered.

The Metropolitan Police Department suspects that there may be organized cheating behind this case, as they believe he may have attempted to secretly record the exam questions and send them to external parties. The police are currently investigating the mastermind behind the scenes.
