On January 7th and 8th, the southern California area in the United States not only experienced rain, snow, and strong winds, but also faced multiple wildfires, including the devastating Pacific Palisades wildfire in the affluent neighborhood of Pacific Palisades. More than 70,000 people were forced to evacuate their homes.
The roads in the Los Angeles area were congested with evacuees and abandoned vehicles, as the Santa Ana Winds fueled the spread of the fires, leading the government to declare a state of emergency.
Prior to the wildfires, the National Weather Service had issued the highest level of extreme fire warnings for most parts of Los Angeles County, with the warning period extending from Tuesday to Thursday. The Weather Service stated that the combination of low humidity, dry vegetation, and prolonged lack of rainfall had created “almost the worst possible conditions for fire weather.”
Los Angeles County Fire Chief Anthony Marrone announced on Wednesday (8th) that the raging wildfire in the Pacific Palisades area had already destroyed 1,000 structures and was still spreading. The fire has claimed the lives of 5 individuals.
The Pacific Palisades community, located west of downtown Los Angeles with stunning mountain and ocean views, is home to many Hollywood celebrities and prominent figures in politics and business. This neighborhood suffered severe damage in the recent wildfire, with numerous luxury homes being engulfed in flames.
