Screen Actors Guild Awards Ceremony Nominations Canceled Due to Wildfires

Due to the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles, the Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG Awards) have canceled the live announcement event for the 31st edition of the awards that was originally scheduled for Wednesday, January 8th. The nominations have been released through press releases and the official SAG Awards website.

The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) released a statement on social media platform X on Wednesday, citing the raging wildfires in Los Angeles and strong winds as the reason for the “highly cautious” decision in consideration of the safety of the hosts, guests, and staff.

In the statement, SAG mentioned, “We look forward to celebrating these outstanding actors and their work at the awards ceremony on February 23rd.” “At the same time, we urge everyone to stay safe and thank you for your continued support.”

The Screen Actors Guild Awards, presented by the SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists), is an annual award that aims to recognize excellence in films and television programs during prime time hours.

Actress Kristen Bell will host the SAG Awards ceremony, which is set to take place on February 23rd at 8 p.m. Eastern Time at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in Los Angeles, with live streaming on Netflix.

The wildfires in Los Angeles have also affected several other Hollywood events. MGM Studios and Universal Studios have canceled the Tuesday premieres of the films “Unstoppable” and “Wolf Man” respectively, while Max canceled the Wednesday premiere of “The Pitt.” Paramount also canceled the Wednesday premiere of “Better Man” due to the “dangerous conditions in Los Angeles.”
