Authorities announced on Sunday morning that Kevin Skinner, a senior firefighter with the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA), passed away due to a sudden heart attack while battling a residential fire in Laguna Niguel.
According to the city news agency, the organization stated, “With heavy hearts, the Orange County Fire Authority announces the passing of Fire Equipment Engineer Kevin Skinner.”
OCFA reported that around 4:56 a.m. on Sunday, Kevin suffered a heart attack while fighting a residential fire in Laguna Niguel. Other firefighters immediately administered life-saving measures and rushed him to a nearby hospital, but Skinner did not survive, leaving behind his wife and three children.
The fire broke out shortly before 5 a.m. on Sunday in the 2900 block of Point Royale.
OCFA Chief Brian Fennessy, during a press conference, said that Skinner and his teammates were assigned to search for residents inside the house, but he informed the captain that he was feeling unwell. He was then escorted to the care personnel outside, where he collapsed and was urgently transported to the hospital.
Fennessy mentioned that Skinner joined OCFA on July 3, 1999, after serving four years in the United States Navy. He also said, “Kevin was beloved within our organization, always making everyone around him feel welcomed. We will deeply miss him.”
Skinner’s untimely passing deeply impacts his colleagues as well as the countless individuals he influenced throughout his career. His dedication and unwavering commitment to serving the community will be remembered fondly.
