The theme of this year’s Taiwan Photography Classic Series Exhibition is “Dragon Leaps in Tainan for 400 Years,” as 2024 marks the 400th anniversary of the founding of Tainan (where the Dutch landed in Anping in 1624) and also coincides with the Year of the Dragon; Tainan is also the host city for the main lantern of the Taiwan Lantern Festival.
The exhibition includes photos of landmarks such as Chihkan Tower, Confucius Temple, Wude Temple, Lukang Lungshan Temple, Taiwan Literature Museum, Judicial Museum, Tainan Lantern Festival, Anping Fort, Twelve Military Graves, German-owned East-Eastern Trading Company, British-owned Dodwell & Co., Shu-wei Village, and Chimei Museum.
400 years ago, a new era began when the Dutch retreated from Penghu to Anping, Tainan, bringing together various ethnic groups due to the trade system between the Dutch and Southeast Asian countries. Four hundred years later, we witness how Tainan has integrated into global trade. From the Dutch, Ming Zheng, Qing Dynasty, Japanese colonial period to today’s changes, this provides an opportunity for everyone to re-examine and review Taiwan’s history, strengthening Taiwan’s unique position and important role in the world.
In line with the spirit of “Love among hometown people, righteousness of the Six Yues,” the Six Yues Zongqin Association will hold the “Taiwan Photography Classic Series Exhibition” at the Los Angeles Overseas Chinese Educational Center in El Monte on June 1-2 (Saturday/Sunday) from 10:30 am to 5:00 pm, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 1 (Saturday) at 12:00 pm.
The exhibition will display fifty printed photos and feature another two hundred and fifty photos and videos on television screens. Free 4×6 photos will be given out on-site, providing overseas compatriots and the general public with an opportunity to enjoy the beauty of Taiwan.
