The Pentagon released the 2025 Annual Report on Chinese Communist Military Power on December 23rd, covering five main areas:
First, China is engaged in a “historic military build-up,” posing an increasing risk to the United States mainland;
Second, the PLA is steadily advancing towards the goal of being capable of waging and winning a war against Taiwan by 2027;
Third, there is a continual expansion of nuclear capabilities, with the number of nuclear warheads expected to reach a thousand by 2030;
Fourth, discussion on whether corruption within the Chinese military will affect its combat effectiveness;
Fifth, the report addresses China’s relationships with Russia, Iran, and North Korea, among others.
The report emphasizes that the United States is not seeking to strangle, dominate, or humiliate China, but rather aims to prevent any country in the Indo-Pacific region from dominating the US or its allies. In other words, peace through strength.
