Anhui Woman Dies After Wrong Tooth Pulled and Reinserted Into Wisdom Tooth Position

Recently, a woman posted on a short video platform that when she had her wisdom teeth removed at the Stomatological Department of Anqing Hospital in Anhui, China, the doctor mistakenly extracted a healthy tooth. A netizen claiming to be the woman’s brother later revealed that his 34-year-old sister had her natural tooth accidentally removed by the doctor during the procedure, and the extracted tooth was then inserted back into the position of the wisdom tooth. Tragically, on March 17, the sister fell from the 11th floor of the hospital and passed away.

According to a report by Jiu Pai News on March 19, the brother of the woman involved stated that on March 12, when his sister went to the hospital to have her wisdom teeth extracted, the doctor removed two wisdom teeth and one healthy tooth, leaving two wisdom teeth untouched. After realizing the mistake, the doctor placed the healthy tooth that was already extracted back into the position of the wisdom tooth and hastily secured it with wire.

The brother said, “He also misled my sister by altering her medical records without permission. My sister was unaware at the time, and only found out about the doctor’s reckless actions after having an X-ray taken at another hospital.”

Since the anesthesia was administered on the wisdom tooth area, the location of the original healthy tooth was not numb, and the doctor forcibly pulled it out.

The woman’s husband described the situation, saying, “My wife pleaded for anesthesia as the toothache was excruciating.” “From March 12 to March 17, my wife didn’t eat anything and could only drink water, never sleeping through the night.”

It is reported that during negotiations with the hospital, the doctor involved refused to admit responsibility, claiming that he could “get away with it,” leading to unsuccessful discussions with the hospital.

The Anqing Municipal Health Commission duty officer confirmed the incident, stating that relevant departments are currently investigating the matter.

A staff member on duty at the Stomatological Department of Anqing Hospital mentioned that they were not aware of the situation as they had just returned from vacation.

Public records show that Anqing Hospital was established in 1938 and was designated as a tertiary grade-A hospital in 1997. It serves as a regional medical center in Anhui province.

Following media coverage of the incident, it has sparked a significant amount of comments from netizens.

A user on Sohu platform commented, “The doctor involved should have his license revoked for negligence, and the family should pursue relevant civil and criminal liabilities.”

Another Sohu user expressed, “A doctor who shows no sense of responsibility and plays with people’s lives like this is not fit to practice medicine.”

Various netizens voiced their opinions on the matter, with some expressing shock and disbelief at the doctor’s actions.

The mishap of the mistaken tooth extraction and reinsertion has stirred strong emotions and discussions among internet users about the accountability and professionalism in the medical field.
