FBI Thwarts Potential New Year’s Eve Terror Attack in North Carolina

On Friday, January 2, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced that they had thwarted a planned New Year’s Eve attack in North Carolina inspired by the terrorist organization ISIS.

FBI Director Patel took to social media platform X on Friday to say, “The FBI, along with our partners, thwarted another potential New Year’s Eve attack, with the attackers allegedly being inspired by ISIS.”

“We will soon hold a press conference at the FBI Charlotte Field Office to release more details,” he added. “I want to express our gratitude to our outstanding partners for their collaboration, undoubtedly saving lives.”

The FBI Charlotte Field Office also posted on X platform on Friday stating, “The FBI and its law enforcement partners have thwarted a potential New Year’s Eve terror attack that could have taken place in North Carolina. The attackers were directly inspired by ISIS. Details will be announced at a press conference to be held in Charlotte at 11:30 am by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of North Carolina (USAO_WDNC) and FBI Special Agent in Charge.”
