Malaysia has recently been hit by severe flooding due to continuous heavy rainfall, triggering large-scale floods across the country. Multiple areas have been affected, with water and electricity supply as well as roads being disrupted. So far, the disaster has claimed the lives of six people and forced nearly 150,000 individuals to evacuate their homes.

According to data from Malaysia’s National Disaster Management Agency, at least nine states have been attacked by super heavy rain. Rivers have overflowed in many areas, causing transportation disruptions. The nine states affected are Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, Perlis, Perak, Negeri Sembilan, Selangor, Melaka, and Johor. By Sunday morning, authorities had set up 689 temporary evacuation centers in the disaster-stricken areas, accommodating over 40,000 households and a total of more than 149,000 displaced people.

Among these, Kelantan has suffered the most severe impact, with over 90,000 affected individuals in the state alone. Several rivers within the state have surpassed dangerous water levels, leading to floods that have devastated over 26,000 hectares of paddy fields, resulting in significant losses.

So far, the flooding has caused at least six fatalities, with most of the victims coming from Kelantan and Terengganu. The Malaysian Meteorological Department has warned that heavy rain in Kelantan, Terengganu, and Perak is expected to continue until this weekend.

Deputy Minister of Malaysia’s Ministry of Public Works Datuk Seri Amat Maslan mentioned that due to the increasingly severe situation, he has instructed public works departments in each state to closely monitor road conditions to prevent disruptions in transportation for delivering relief supplies and conducting search and rescue operations.

Meanwhile, in southern Thailand, severe flooding has also occurred. As of Saturday, the floods have claimed the lives of nine individuals, affected over 550,000 households, and left more than 13,000 people homeless.
