The 2026 Golden Mountain Bay Area Chinese Sports Movement Conference shooting competition safety seminar was held on June 14th (last Sunday) at the Nan Bay Qiao Education Center, attracting many participants and parents to participate enthusiastically, with lively exchanges on site.
The seminar was hosted by the shooting competition convener Hu Zhijing and deputy convener Chen Zongyi, covering topics such as California firearms regulations, shooting equipment requirements, range safety rules, and youth participation qualifications.
Chairman of the Chinese Sports Movement Committee Chen Ligong stated that the shooting seminar was mainly to help participants understand range rules and remind everyone that on the day of the competition, it is essential to follow the instructions of referees, staff, and range managers.
He pointed out that upon arrival, participants should first complete a written test, pass it to obtain a wristband, and only then enter the designated area. Last year, some participants were stopped for not following the exam and range rules, so this year everyone was reminded to carefully read the exam and range rules in advance to avoid disrupting the competition process.
Chen Ligong emphasized that shooting is one of the more unique events among the nearly 30 competitions of the Chinese Sports Movement, which cannot be practiced or competed in regular venues and must be conducted at specialized shooting ranges. The ranges are located in mountainous areas, offering a comfortable environment, beautiful scenery, and providing participants with different experiences and opportunities for exchange.
He stressed that shooting competitions involve the use of firearms, with safety being paramount; as long as proper protection is in place and regulations are strictly followed, one can confidently participate.
Hu Zhijing stated that the annual shooting safety seminar is held because while firearms falling into the hands of criminals is dangerous, even in the hands of law-abiding citizens, a lack of understanding of correct usage and storage methods can also pose risks. Therefore, the seminar aims to help everyone understand the regulations for acquiring, using, and storing firearms, as well as how to comply with government regulations, ensuring legal possession and compliant use, making firearms a controllable tool under safe management.
He also pointed out that different types of firearms have different uses and storage requirements, and if the public can have more knowledge in this regard, they can improve their safety awareness when handling or using them in the future, reducing the likelihood of accidents. Hu Zhijing emphasized that the core of promoting shooting activities is not just about competition results, but more importantly, about establishing correct concepts and safety habits.
Song Zhen, who has won the individual gold medal in the handgun category of the Chinese Sports Movement shooting competition, said that she has been participating in the event for about 16 years, almost without fail every year. She believes that shooting is a great sport that not only tests focus but also helps people understand the importance of maintaining visual acuity.
Newcomer participant and “Feather in the Wind” instructor Peng Leyun, who has been in the Bay Area for 20 years and participating in the Chinese Sports Movement for 20 years, admitted to not understanding the shooting event in the past, so she specifically came to learn about firearm use, safety regulations, and related knowledge. She noted that firearms cannot be used casually, and from holding the gun to operating it, one must fully comply with regulations, otherwise, it could pose a danger.
