Jingzhou City Communist Party Secretary Wu Jin Under Investigation, Previous Official Also Expelled for Corruption

The Secretary of the Jingzhou Municipal Party Committee in Hubei Province, Wu Jin, has been officially announced to have fallen from power. He had been absent from local official media for 26 days prior to this announcement.

According to the Hubei Provincial Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision on April 15th, Wu Jin is suspected of serious “violations of discipline and law” and is currently undergoing disciplinary review and supervision investigation.

Public information shows that Wu Jin has been working in Hubei for a long time, having held positions such as Party Secretary and Director of the Investment Promotion Bureau in Yichang City, Mayor of Dangyang City, Vice Director of the Hubei Provincial Land Reclamation Administration in October 2009. In 2013, Wu Jin was appointed as the Mayor of Tianmen City, became the Party Secretary of Tianmen City in November 2016, and served as the Mayor of Huangshi City in January 2019. In August 2021, Wu Jin was transferred to the position of Secretary of the Jingzhou Municipal Party Committee, until his current investigation.

According to a report by Caixin, Wu Jin’s last public appearance in local official media was on March 20th, when he conducted research and supervision in the central urban area of Jingzhou on the progress of rectifying feedback issues from the ecological and environmental supervision inspection of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.

During Wu Jin’s tenure as Secretary of the Jingzhou Municipal Party Committee, the former Mayor of Jingzhou City, Zhou Zhihong, who worked closely with him, was investigated as of October last year. Prior to Wu Jin, He Guangzhong, who served as the Secretary of the Jingzhou Municipal Party Committee, was investigated in May 2023 and was officially expelled from the Communist Party in November 2023.
