Maggie Smith, who portrayed Professor McGonagall in “Harry Potter,” passes away at the age of 89.

Renowned British actress Maggie Smith, known for her role as “Professor McGonagall” in the Harry Potter film series, passed away at the age of 89 in a hospital in London on September 27th.

According to BBC reports, Maggie, who had been married twice, was mourned by her two sons, Toby Stephens and Chris Larkin, in a statement. Her sons expressed deep sorrow over their mother’s peaceful passing in the hospital in the early hours of September 27th.

“She was a very private person, surrounded by friends and family at the end. She leaves behind two children and five beloved grandchildren, all devastated by the loss of an extraordinary mother and grandmother,” Toby Stephens and Chris Larkin stated through a spokesperson.

Maggie Smith had a career spanning nearly 70 years, with over 60 films and 70 stage plays to her credit. In 1990, she was awarded the title of Dame by Queen Elizabeth II and received the Companion of Honour in 2014.

Maggie Smith was best known for her roles in the Harry Potter film series and Downton Abbey. In 1970, she won an Oscar for Best Actress for “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie,” and went on to receive Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actress, as well as Emmy Awards, Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild Awards, Tony Awards, and BAFTA Awards, making her one of the few performers to achieve the Triple Crown of Acting, earning praise as a “true legend” in the entertainment industry.
