From April 4th, Hainan Province’s meteorological department has continuously issued a level four high temperature warning, and on April 8th, this warning was still in effect. In recent days, the surface temperature in Hainan has been increasing rapidly, causing the maximum temperatures in many areas to reach 37℃ to 39℃, with some areas even reaching 40℃. On April 8th, the temperature in Chengmai briefly reached as high as 41.1℃. The meteorological department predicts that the high temperature weather will continue in the coming days.
According to the official Weibo account of China Weather Network, starting from the afternoon of April 7th, the maximum temperatures in Chengmai, Haikou, Lingao, Danzhou, Tunchang, Baisha, and Changjiang on the north side of Hainan Island all exceeded 38℃. Chengmai in Hainan recorded a temperature of 41.1℃ at 14:10 on April 8th, breaking the record for the highest temperature in early April.
Li Yumei, the chief forecaster at Hainan Meteorological Observatory, stated that since April 5th, there has been a widespread and persistent high temperature weather pattern in Hainan Island, with temperatures ranging from 37℃ to 39℃ in the northwest half of the island, and locally exceeding 40℃.
Due to the high temperatures, as of April 6th, Wenchang and Qionghai have experienced severe meteorological drought, and 11 other cities and counties have faced moderate meteorological drought.
The ongoing high temperature and drought have had a significant impact on agricultural production. Lychee and mango are currently in the period of fruit enlargement, and the high temperatures and drought can lead to uneven fruit size, poor coloring, and decreased taste.
Similarly, the continuous high temperatures are unfavorable for the flowering of early rice, which may result in reduced grain setting rates and increased rates of blank grains.
The high temperature weather in Hainan Island is expected to persist for the next 10 days.
In addition, as the subtropical high-pressure system shifts northward, the rainfall in South China has decreased, leading to intensified heat. Some areas are expected to experience prolonged high temperatures. In major cities, Haikou may continue to see record highs in the next week, and the highest temperature in Nanning, Guangxi, is also expected to reach 34℃ to 35℃.
