World’s Tallest and Shortest Women Meet Over 150cm Apart

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Guinness World Records Day, the Guinness World Records organization invited the tallest and shortest women in the world to a tea party in London, UK. The height difference between these two women is over 150 centimeters, creating a striking visual contrast when they stand together.

According to the Guinness World Records website report on November 20th, the tallest woman in the world is Rumeysa Gelgi from Turkey, standing at 215.16 centimeters; while the shortest woman is Jyoti Amge from India, only 62.8 centimeters tall. They met for the first time at the Savoy Hotel in London.

Despite their height difference of 152.36 centimeters, they bonded over enjoying English tea, sharing life experiences, and a mutual passion for fashion and self-care, ultimately becoming good friends.

Regarding their meeting, Gelgi expressed that it was a wonderful experience. “She (Amge) is the most beautiful lady. I have been looking forward to meeting her for a long time.”

Amge said, “I am used to looking up at people taller than me, so today, I am happy to look up at the tallest woman in the world.”

Gelgi added, “Due to the difference in height, we sometimes find it challenging to make eye contact, but this kind of communication is great.”

Craig Glenday, the editor-in-chief of Guinness World Records, witnessed the first meeting of these two women and remarked that Guinness World Records is all about celebrating diversity.

To recognize the contributions of these two women to society, the organization specially awarded them with blue and gold certificates as proof of being recognized as Guinness World Records icons.

Amge admitted that she never thought she would become a Guinness World Records icon but was delighted to receive this title. She could not describe how happy she felt.

She said, “I never thought I would be called an icon, and this being included in the 70th-anniversary edition of the Guinness World Records is very special.”

At 27 years old, Gelgi currently works as a web designer. She suffers from the rare Weaver Syndrome, which causes rapid growth and skeletal deformities, making her the 27th known case worldwide. Doctors have diagnosed around 50 cases of this condition globally.

In 2021, Gelgi was crowned the tallest woman globally. Additionally, she holds records for having the largest hands, longest back, and longest ears among women worldwide.

At 30 years old, Amge was born with a normal body size but started showing abnormal growth as she aged. She became the world’s shortest woman at the age of 18, weighing only 5 kilograms. Due to achondroplasia, a form of dwarfism, she stopped growing taller.

Amge has about 2.1 million followers on Instagram. She has appeared in the American television series “American Horror Story,” fulfilling her dream of becoming the world’s shortest actress. The show premiered in 2014.

Earlier this year, Amge met the world’s tallest man in California. This reunion came six years after their first meeting in Egypt when these two world record holders, with a height difference of nearly 2 meters, met again.

Previously reported by Epoch Times, Sultan Kosen from Turkey, standing at 251 centimeters, was certified as the world’s tallest man. He met Amge at an event in California on February 19, invited by an unnamed American manufacturer.

When these two people sat together, Amge’s head only reached Kosen’s knee level, showcasing their noticeable height difference. Kosen’s foot length is 36.5 centimeters, exceeding half of Amge’s height. Amge could even sit on Kosen’s shoes.

Kosen is considered “head and shoulders above the rest” due to his condition of pituitary gigantism, a disorder characterized by excessive growth hormone secretion. He also has knee issues, which prevent him from standing for long periods and requires the use of crutches frequently.
