From doughnuts to ride-sharing: What discounts can voters enjoy on election day?

Businesses use this day to promote their brands through giveaways or discounts to attract more customers. On that day, voters can enjoy various perks, ranging from ride discounts to free desserts.

November 5th, the Election Day, is not a federal holiday. However, some states treat it as a public holiday to celebrate, leading local government offices to potentially close on that day. Over two thousand companies have participated in the “Time to Vote” initiative, ensuring that their employees can vote based on their work schedules.

Here are some of the promotions and discounts offered by various businesses on Election Day, so be sure to check if local restaurants, bars, and companies in your area are running any Election Day promotions.

The popular donut chain Krispy Kreme will be giving voters “I Voted” stickers and free original glazed donuts.

The company stated that as Americans cast their votes at polling stations and volunteer, Krispy Kreme hopes to share the pride of participating in the federal election by offering the most iconic donut for free at participating stores (one per customer), making their day a little sweeter.

On Election Day, ride-hailing platforms are offering discounts for people traveling to polling stations. Users can simply click on the “Go Vote!” option in the Uber app to access various discounts. The company is offering half-price rides (up to $10 off) to polling stations and helping users find the nearest voting locations.

Uber also offers discounts for voters to enjoy on Election Night. From 6:00 pm on November 5th to 7:00 am on November 6th, Uber is providing a 25% discount (up to $15 off) for rides costing at least $25.

Competitor Lyft is also offering discounts. Riders using Lyft to go to polling stations on Election Day can enjoy a 50% discount (up to $10 off). Users can preload the code VOTE24 before November 5th.

As part of promoting voting activities, car rental company Hertz is offering one free day for customers renting a car for two days or more between October 21st and November 5th.

Lime is offering two free 30-minute rides on Election Day for those using the code “VOTE2024” when heading to the polling stations.

On Election Day, Johnny Rockets will be giving a free milkshake to customers who make a purchase in participating stores, provided they show proof of voting, such as presenting the “I Voted” sticker.

With over four hundred locations primarily on the West Coast, Round Table Pizza is offering a $6 discount on large or extra-large pizzas for customers dining in, ordering takeout, or delivery on Election Day at select stores participating in the promotion.
