Typhoon “Taba”, the 16th typhoon of the year, made landfall along the coast of Taishan City, Guangdong Province around 8:50 am on September 8th. As a result, various locations in Guangdong Province have suspended maritime transportation, operations, and classes.
According to official reports from CCTV News, from 8:00 on the 7th to 6:00 on the 8th, there were heavy rain or torrential rain in some coastal areas of Guangdong and the northeastern part of Hainan Island. Localized regions in Haikou, Hainan experienced severe downpours, while the southern coastal areas of Guangdong and the northern part of the South China Sea saw strong winds ranging from 7 to 9 on the Beaufort scale, with locally reaching 10 to 12.
Videos shared by netizens revealed significant damage in Zhuhai, where many trees were either bent or uprooted by the typhoon, leaving a scene of devastation everywhere. Streets in Guanghai Town in Taishan were also overwhelmed by floods.
In preparation for Typhoon “Taba”, schools in Shenzhen, Zhongshan, Jiangmen, Zhuhai, Yangjiang, Yunfu, Heshan, Kaiping, and Taishan were closed on September 8th. The Shenzhen-Zhanjiang Railway and the Guangzhou-Maoming Railway ceased operations. Passenger ferries at Jiuzhou Port and Xiangzhou Port in Zhuhai, as well as at Xin Haimen Port and Xiuying Port in Haikou, were also suspended.
Currently, 30 passenger ferry routes in Guangdong Province have ceased operation, with 94 passenger ferry ships remaining docked. According to Xinhua News Agency, more than 1,700 workers from wind power platforms in Yangjiang were evacuated on the morning of the 7th. Over 2,000 aquaculture personnel and over 340 ocean ranching personnel have also been brought to shore.
Moreover, several tourist attractions in Guangdong have temporarily closed down, including the Nansha Wetland Park in Guangzhou, the Tianhou Palace in Guangzhou, the Shenzhen Observatory, and the Observatory’s walking trail.
