Breaking News: Once CCP Reunifies, Will Americans Instantly Recognize Taiwan’s Independence?! Recognizing the Biggest Threat, US House of Representatives Passes the “Crucial Communism Teaching Act”
Hello everyone, welcome to “News Talks,” I’m Fuyao. Today is December 9th, Monday.
Today’s focus: Once CCP reunifies, will Americans immediately recognize Taiwan’s independence?! Understanding the Biggest Threat, US House of Representatives Passes the “Crucial Communism Teaching Act.”
Our guests for this episode are Dr. Lin Xiaoxu, Member of the US Committee on Addressing the Current Crisis with CCP, and Qin Peng, Current Affairs Commentator and Senior Political and Economic Analyst.
Last week, the Reagan Institute in the US, which has been focusing on national security issues for the past six years, released a latest survey.
The survey revealed that regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the public supports the US continuing to provide security assistance to Ukraine, allowing them to use US weapons to target Russian targets within Russia.
Regarding the conflict in the Middle East, over half (54%) of the public supports the US continuing to aid Israel.
In terms of the invisible war, the majority of respondents believe that the biggest threat to the US is CCP. Two-thirds of the public think the US should counter CCP with economic sanctions.
On the topic of Taiwan, three-quarters of respondents believe that if CCP attacks Taiwan, “the US should officially recognize Taiwan’s independence.”
The survey shows that most Americans want a strong US military to lead global affairs, with the vast majority wanting to increase defense spending. Currently, about half of the respondents believe the US will emerge victorious in a conflict with CCP.
Nearly 80% of surveyed Americans support the government increasing military spending, a slight increase from last year. The majority of surveyed Americans believe that the US military should be strong enough to win in two conflicts simultaneously.
Qin Peng, were you surprised by this survey? Because generally, many people think Americans may care more about their own lives?
Dr. Lin Xiaoxu, only half of the respondents believe the US will win in a conflict with CCP. Despite the US military’s strength being significantly greater than CCP’s, why do Americans seem to lack confidence in a “military showdown with CCP”?
Dr. Lin Xiaoxu, the survey also indicates that if CCP attacks Taiwan, nearly three-quarters of the respondents believe “the US should officially recognize Taiwan’s independence.” What does this reflect about the mindset of Americans?
The US House of Representatives passed legislation last week with a vote of 327 to 62, aiming to educate American students on the dangers and historical impact of communism.
This “Crucial Communism Teaching Act” was initiated by Republican Federal Representative Maria Salazar from Florida.
The purpose is to help high school students in the US understand the dangers of communism and totalitarianism and how these systems violate the founding principles of freedom and democracy in America through elective educational materials provided by the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation.
Salazar posted on social media platform X, saying, “My bill ensures that future generations can understand the terror of communist ideology and the suffering, oppression, and exile it has brought to its victims.”
Qin Peng, can you explain the significance of this bill? If the bill passes, how will it impact the future of America?
According to data from the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation, 28% of Generation Z in the US (those born in the late 1990s and early 2000s) hold a favorable view of “communism.”
In comparison, only 6% of Boomers (those born between 1946-1964) and 3% of the Silent Generation (those born between 1928-1945) support communism; 18% of Generation Z believe communism is a fairer system than capitalism and worth considering in America.
Dr. Lin Xiaoxu, what significant events has the US experienced during these different periods? Why do many American Generation Z individuals identify with “communism”?
Qin Peng, Bobby Scott, a senior Democratic member of the House Committee on Education and Labor and Federal Representative from Virginia, expressed a concern during the session that this might further “politicize” education. Do you think this will happen?
Dr. Lin Xiaoxu, why did the US House introduce this bill at this particular moment? (What makes this moment different? How did they achieve an overwhelming victory?)
Qin Peng, many people know that “socialism is the primary stage of communism,” but there are also many American opinion leaders who advocate for “socialism.” What’s wrong with that? How is the division between left and right in society related to “socialism”?
Dr. Lin Xiaoxu, how does “communism” pose a threat to American society?
