Hunan Corporate Legal Person Commits Violence Against Interviewer for Selling Non-Standard Cables

【Epoch Times, July 16, 2025】
Hunan Fengxu Cable Co., Ltd. was reported for selling substandard products. On July 15th, mainland media journalists visited the company for an interview. The company’s responsible person not only obstructed the interview but also smashed the journalist’s camera and shoved them. The incident has drawn public attention. It is worth mentioning that a few years ago, the company was found to have produced unqualified products without certification and sold wires without mandatory certification.

Changsha resident Mr. Liu told reporters from “Xiaoxiang Morning News · Morning Help” that he needed to renovate his home and believed that the quality of electrical wires was crucial for home safety. He eventually purchased 2×2.5mm² and 2×1.5mm² wires from Hunan Fengxu Cable Co., Ltd. located in Changsha Liantong U Valley for over 50,000 yuan. However, the electrician who installed the wires noticed that they were noticeably thinner than expected, raising concerns about future safety hazards.

Upon this discovery, Mr. Liu sent the wire samples to a third-party authoritative testing agency, Shaanxi Xiecheng Testing Technology Co., Ltd., for inspection. According to the test report, these cables not only failed to meet national recommended standards but also fell short of the company’s provided corporate standards.

The use of these wires at home could pose fire hazards. Armed with the test report, Mr. Liu argued with Fengxu Cable Company’s management. The company’s head, Mr. Xie, remained indifferent, refusing to acknowledge any product issues and demanding evidence from Mr. Liu to prove the origin of the purchased products. Frustrated by this attitude, Mr. Liu sought media assistance.

On the morning of July 15th, journalists from Hunan Fengmao News, “Xiaoxiang Morning News,” Hunan Urban Channel, and Changsha Political and Legal Channel accompanied Mr. Liu to Hunan Fengxu Cable Company to report on the consumer dispute.

During the interview process, Mr. Xie, the company’s manager, suggested legal procedures could be pursued. When pressed further about the validity of the test report, Mr. Xie avoided a direct response and eventually walked away.

As journalists tried to continue filming and gather information, Mr. Xie became extremely agitated, pushing a female journalist down the stairs. He then attempted to grab other journalists’ phones, shouting provocatively, “Report me! I dare you! Report me!” He then rushed down the stairs to wrestle with a cameraman for the camera.

After seizing the camera, Mr. Xie raised the 38,000 yuan Panasonic camera high and slammed it heavily onto the concrete floor, breaking it into pieces. He then approached another reporter, tearing their clothes, knocking off their glasses, and causing the reporter to bleed from the gums. Subsequently, he shoved the journalists and tried to seize their phones.

According to Red Star News, the journalist whose camera was smashed promptly reported the incident to the police and provided a statement at the local police station.

In response, the company claimed that they smashed the journalist’s camera because they demanded the deletion of recorded footage, which the journalist refused to remove.

The incident quickly gained traction online, prompting the Chinese Journalists Association to emphasize that “interviews are the rights of journalists, and legitimate public opinion supervision is protected by law,” pledging to monitor the situation continuously.

As the situation escalated, the Changsha police issued a statement on the evening of July 15th, revealing that the individual involved, Mr. Xie, is the 42-year-old legal representative of Hunan Fengxu Cable Co., Ltd. He was detained on suspicion of intentional destruction of property for damaging the journalist’s glasses and filming equipment. Samples of the company’s cables in circulation have been collected for inspection.

Amid the ongoing uproar, the “dark history” of Fengxu Cable Company has come to light. Back in 2017, the company was fined over 170,000 yuan by the Changsha Municipal Quality Supervision Bureau for producing uncertified products, counterfeiting 3C quality marks, and manufacturing substandard wires.

Moreover, there are concerns raised by netizens that the substandard cables from this company have infiltrated numerous schools in Hunan and even won a project bid from the emergency management bureau in Jiangxi. Netizens question the connections and protection allowing a company with a prior record to continue producing unsatisfactory products.

According to the Tianyancha app, Hunan Fengxu Cable Co., Ltd. was established in 2013 in Changsha, Hunan Province, engaged primarily in metal products. The registered capital of the company is 20 million yuan, with a paid-up capital of 1.4 million yuan, and its legal representative is Xie Yuanpei.
