Southern California Chinese-American Association Fundraising and Donation – Sending Shoes to Warm Disaster Areas.

The World Chinese Business Women Association’s Southern California Chapter (South Cal World Chinese) held a press conference for their new team on January 15th at the Overseas Community Center in Los Angeles. The new president, Li Minhua, leads the new team to promote the spirit of “Thoughtful Action, Radiant World Chinese”, assisting the victims of the wildfires in Los Angeles. Apart from raising funds and goods, they will also host a charity online seminar titled “The Road to Reconstruction” on the 26th afternoon, providing practical guidance to help the affected residents overcome their difficulties.

Since its establishment 34 years ago, South Cal World Chinese has united passionate philanthropic Chinese businesswomen in Southern California who actively engage in community service. In addition to participating in overseas Chinese affairs activities promoted by the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan), they also periodically organize various seminars on business, technology, health, and more. Through the collective efforts and mutual care of all members, they connect with the global business community.

Min-Yung Chen, the director of the Overseas Community Center, mentioned that South Cal World Chinese has been involved in various activities organized by the Overseas Community Affairs Council over the years. After the wildfires in Los Angeles, they promptly initiated fundraising and donation activities, showcasing to the mainstream American society that “Southern California has World Chinese, and World Chinese originated from Taiwan.” He expressed gratitude for the unity and contributions of South Cal World Chinese members to the community.

Tien Yi-Hung, a national policy advisor for the Republic of China (Taiwan), has collaborated with South Cal World Chinese for many years. He believes that the association plays a significant role in the Southern California overseas Chinese community, not only in executing powerful activities but also in boasting numerous professional and outstanding talents, organizing many different forms of seminars. He encourages the new president, Li Minhua, to lead South Cal World Chinese to continue serving the overseas Chinese community and innovate further.

Li Minhua stated that in 2025, she will lead South Cal World Chinese to integrate more into mainstream society and maintain the long-standing connections with the American community. She plans to establish eight subcommittees to enhance members’ involvement and tighten their connections. Of course, she will also uphold the tradition of World Chinese, promoting the spirit of unwavering support for democracy and freedom from the Republic of China in Southern California.

World Chinese has collected a large number of shoes needed for children under 10, which will be donated to relevant units. On the 26th at 3 p.m., they will also hold a Zoom online seminar titled “The Road to Reconstruction”, inviting experts to share first-hand resources about government subsidies, SBA loans, current resident contacts, and key information.

Veteran insurance expert Sammy Yu will explain crucial considerations for homeowners’ insurance, including how to review their policies, understand the correct procedures and techniques for rebuilding costs and insurance claims.

Subsidy application expert Claudia Lin will inform the public about how to apply for government assistance when insurance claims are not yet settled, providing practical application steps and document preparation suggestions.

Lawyer Wendy Doo will share advice on how disaster victims can pursue rightful compensation, ensure insurance companies fulfill their commitments, handle legal rights and precautions in insurance disputes, and provide advice on dealing with post-disaster legal issues.

South Cal World Chinese will hold a 34th-anniversary celebration and president handover ceremony on February 22nd. In addition to a sumptuous dinner, the day will feature carefully arranged song and dance performances, a dance party, gift raffles (including airline tickets), and other exciting activities, inviting community leaders and overseas Chinese pioneers to join the grand event.
